I received calls from both of our adult children last night. One is on a SWAT team and the other is a D1 athlete. They’re pretty damn resilient. They also communicate with us frequently because we have healthy relationships and offer good advice. If your children don’t appreciate talking to you it’s a you problem, not an us problem.

When he's happy, rarely. When he's not, every other day. So, it depends on the week.

DS has a chronic illness so we communicate about that by text almost daily. I try to throw in a “hope XYZ class was interesting” so I’m not forcing small talk but I don’t want every conversation to be medical.
He’ll call 1-2x a week just to chat. And, of course we get the “I need money” calls!

Before I lost her, I communicated with my mom several times a day (pics of grandkids, what I was doing that day, who I ran into or spoke to, what she was up to, etc.)

I hear from my freshman pretty much daily -- text or phone or both. She often calls when she is commuting to class (she has a 20 minute tram ride or a 40 minute walk.) She is much more communicative than she was during high school/while living at home. In part I think that is the adjustment factor -- I hear from her less often when she is fully occupied and having fun. But even less often is close to once a day.
