Southern school. My son's SEC school is almost even. It is affirmative action for white guys. Blatantly.

If so, why aren't they going 50-50 male-female, which they know would be beneficial to them because it's what students themselves want? I'm guessing is that the female applicants really are better qualified than the males, so to to get to 50-50 they'd have to dip too far down into the male applicant pool. Maybe there's a better explanation, but I can't think of it.

Not necessarily. I know a top notch kid who got rejected from Georgetown. He ended up at UCLA. So, why would he get rejected when he clearly was qualified and ended up at even more unbalanced school? Georgetown was his top choice and he took the rejection hard.
Because Georgetown is a very underrated school by US News and a harder admit than people think (and all California state schools are overrated. But a male applicant isn’t really going to be helped much for usual suspect dominant male majors like business or econ, if that was the case…

Known for its STEM programs. Basically if a school isn’t known for business or engineering there will be very little male students.

Amen. Hot girls. Hot guys. Plenty of accomplished and privileged people from old Southern families. The kind of thing you want to marry into.
Not everything in life should be a struggle session. Sometimes you want to be in a position to skim the cream from the top. College is one of those times.
