Southern school. My son's SEC school is almost even. It is affirmative action for white guys. Blatantly.

DEI is ok for white guys.

If so, why aren't they going 50-50 male-female, which they know would be beneficial to them because it's what students themselves want? I'm guessing is that the female applicants really are better qualified than the males, so to to get to 50-50 they'd have to dip too far down into the male applicant pool. Maybe there's a better explanation, but I can't think of it.

Not necessarily. I know a top notch kid who got rejected from Georgetown. He ended up at UCLA. So, why would he get rejected when he clearly was qualified and ended up at even more unbalanced school? Georgetown was his top choice and he took the rejection hard.

Because Georgetown is a very underrated school by US News and a harder admit than people think (and all California state schools are overrated. But a male applicant isn’t really going to be helped much for usual suspect dominant male majors like business or econ, if that was the case…

If he was good enough for one he was good enough for another. It had nothing to do with lowering standards to accept more males.

No, Michigan has become quite unbalanced. 56% female, 44% male this year.
This is new.

Note Dame is still even.

Known for its STEM programs. Basically if a school isn’t known for business or engineering there will be very little male students.

Yes but it isn’t just that. Georgia for example has a strong engineering program. Auburn also has a large nursing and education school which hurts the ratio.

Auburn actively works on its ratio.

Amen. Hot girls. Hot guys. Plenty of accomplished and privileged people from old Southern families. The kind of thing you want to marry into.

Not everything in life should be a struggle session. Sometimes you want to be in a position to skim the cream from the top. College is one of those times.

These people tend to marry each other. It’s not really for northerners.

Not entirely true:
59/41 South Carolina
58/42 Alabama
57/43 Georgia

It more has to do with schools that have a strong reputation in engineering (maybe business too) or are selective enough they can do roughly 50/50 and it not impact the merits of the student body.

The male/female ratio is only part of it. To get the full picture also look at the ratios for gay/straight/bi etc. Take, for example, Harvard. The student newspaper published data. Not as many straight kids as you’d think.
