I like it. I do think it is hard to pull off unless you are in SoCal or South Florida. People are conservative here, so, lots of people will think he is nuts.

To a sports car person, this is a beautiful car and at an exceptional price. It rivals Ferrari etc. at a MUCH lower price point assuming he gets something close to the base model.

Many people driving expensive cars, whether sports cars or not, are middle-aged or old, because it usually takes time to get to the point in life where one can spend a lot on a vehicle. There is no "crisis" necessarily involved. Instead, it's a reflection of their financial position at a point in time. I'd expect many much younger people would be very happy to drive a Corvette, but are not yet financially able to do so. Many older and wealthier people might also like one, but now are physically unable to manage the very low seating position.

So enjoy what you want, when you're able to, as long as the expense doesn't have a materially negative impact on your long-term financial security. For some people, a Corvette in middle age is what they want and can now afford. For others, it might be a Rolex, or a Martin D-45, or a yacht charter for $100K or more for a week. So what? What do you care if some random judgmental person sees the car and thinks "mid-life crisis? Do you select your car based on what strangers might infer from your choice, or because it's what you want?
