Once you are adept with the cup you only touch it to get it in and out. You can “empty it” hands free every time you go to the bathroom. I’ve never used a tampon so I can’t compare but the cup made my period so much less gross.

+1 I hate how pads and tampons mean you are throwing smelly blood cotton/whatever material in the trash (or hurting your plumbing by flushing it). I am fine with a little blood touching my hands. It washes off. The pads and tampons stink up the bathroom.

I get tampax and playtex. One of them the most absorbent is called Ultra. That lasts me a few hours at my heaviest, more when laying down/sleeping.

Plastic or cardboard? Can the cardboard ones be flushed I swear I saw packaging that said they can. Also are most of you flushing the used tampon or wrapping it up in tissue and throwing it out?

+1 I didn't used to sleep in tampons, but now I use a reusable disc (similar to a cup but different shape and position).

It can be left in safely for 12 hours and has larger capacity. The best thing is on my heavy days it empties automatically when I use the bathroom. It is so amazing I kind of look forward to my periods lol

When you bear down at all to release your bladder, the seal is broken and it empties. You don’t have to reinsert or adjust and it doesn’t fall out. It’s pretty convenient (not the previous poster, just another disc fan). I can usually avoid cleaning it in public bathrooms by leaving it in until I’m home, since it self empties.

What if you cough?
Also, toilet plume from flushing lidless public toilets gets on the toilet paper so unroll somevasnd toss it before cleaning your blood disc.
