Same. In state, 4.38, lots of rigor. High test score though, but I don’t think UVA cares about test scores at all. I will report back.

Why on earth would you say that?

If you've listened to their presentations, they always say that rigor and grades across all four years is more important than the tests.

No, Dean J does not say that. She says rigor AND grades AND test scores AND ECs, etc are important. Otherwise how do you explain a 35ACT at the 75th percentile and a 34 at the median?

Yep. Listen to what they do, and not what they say.

If scores didn’t matter they would be test blind.

Correct. SCHEV doesn’t lie. They want to see a 35 ACT and/or a 1510 SAT. Dean J has to make test optional noises until UVA decides to return to testing, which the Board is considering for fall 2027.

Remember also that she’s said the same about grades. It’s all marketing. She wants your kid to apply. She knows you want to hear these statements and rely upon them.

But the scores are inflated since a large portion of the enrolled class is test optional. But you know this.

More applications does not equal more good applications. The top kids in their respective classes are still the top kids.

Cite?

Different poster but there was some alumni communication that said they had received 73K or something similar by mid Dec and it's reasonable to assume that they got to 90K when it was all said and done because RD kids likely had not submitted by mid Dec.

https://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2026/01/2025-2026-early-action-admission.html

"Our total applicant pool (ED, EA, and RD) is just under 83,000 students."

Admissions doesn't get to decide, the Board does. Admissions explains it well. The tests are a snapshot and they need to go into much more depth. You need to standout in all areas to make it.

It’s a cheap trick they used. My kid was thrilled to not send off a quick application, but she has no chance of getting.

Weighted or unweighted?

Looks like unweighted:

Percentage of all enrolled, degree-seeking, first-time, first-year students who had high school gradepoint averages within each of the following ranges (using 4.0 scale).

Has to be unweighted because SCHEV tells us the weighted is a 4.5 at the 75th percentile and a 4.4 at the median.

Are these GPAs for when students applied (junior year grades), or are they their final GPAs after senior year? That part always confuses me. Another year of AP and IB classes can really bring your GPA up.

Link to the video because I don't think she's ever said that. She always says classroom performance is #1 and even says that was the case pre-covid when they required testing.

Is this a 4.36 now or when they applied? Our Naviance shows the GPA after their senior year. My DC applied with a 4.38 but has a 4.5 which is slightly above the average.

DP. Not exactly. I’ve been tuning into her Thursday Q&As regularly and she consistently says that a test score doesn’t tell her much. She says “I’ll look at it if you want to send it,” but seems fairly dismissive of them.

My kid decided to submit regardless, because I’m not sure I believe her. But that is what she at least says.
