So with the expected switch to alert and maybe freezing rain-what’s the best shoveling strategy? Wait until it’s all done so there’s a snow barrier before the ice? Or shovel during the snow so there’s not 6” of heavy ice to try to break up?

Snow totals are only going down because of more ice which could actually be far worse!

Your first storm?

Rookie mistake. The stores were empty on Wednesday. I made a second pass this am for the brand of milk I like and some gruyère (egg bites).

In total I have 2 gallons. Still can’t find the gruyère!

Which brings me to tomorrow am you must make a beeline for the dairy first. Because people in this area go crazy for cheese when snow is predicated.

So trust me, first thing tomorrow am, the shelves will be stocked tonight, be first in line when the doors open.

Get your milk, your dairy products of choice and you absolutely must load up on cheese.

Would someone please tell me what the heck you all doing with all of that dang cheese!

Eat enough cheese and you won’t need much TP. Win/win. Lactose intolerant folks need not apply, of course.

TP is gross. We have heated toto washlets. And when the power goes out, we at least have toto portable bidets.

I think the crazy outlier is the GFS.

Weather apps use raw data, AND often from a single model like GFS (better for short term forecasting) while professional meteorologists interpret multiple models, use local knowledge, and analyze trends, etc.

FCPS will be closed all week because they already had Thursday/Friday off and a 2 hour early release on Wednesday.

If they didn’t have those days off, my bet would be closed Mon-Tues, possibly W or possibly a 2 hour morning delay, and then 2 hour morning delays due to cold the rest of the week. They’re probably really glad they don’t have to make any calls because we were scheduled off anyway.

Loudoun and Fairfax will close for the week if the forecast holds. Fairfax is already closed Thu and Fri.

Snow + ice + freezing cold temps will mean that they can't do much about the side streets and sidewalks. We are in Arlington and I think we'll be closed for the week. APS is already closed on Friday for grade prep.
