mid-sized, pre-professional, great student faculty relationships, and good school spirit driven by its basketball team.

Differences
Student body is more regional than Elon. It doesn't have the same experiential emphasis. More than 5 hours from DC.

You could write something similar about Butler.

Furman seemed very southern. Most kids were from within a 2-3 hour drive. Campus also being isolated from the town was different. Nice campus, but he did not like how it was fenced in…

Elon is in the south too. Presumably this kid wants a Southern school. They should tour Furman and see what they think. Both campuses were isolated.

Nobody has been able to demonstrate there is a difference between High Point and Elon. Both are fine but mediocre.

I think they’re the same. Neither are T100 national universities.

Elon was 70 something before the big shakeup where both it and Wake Forest fell like 20-30 spots. Forget exactly, recall as I live in NC and it was a big story.

High Point is known to be very MAGA, campus is like Disney and almost doesn’t seem real, but the area is vey depressed so it’s a jarring juxtaposition outside the gate. They tout life skills. I’m sure some kids benefit. I know they have a steakhouse as part of food plan once a month or something. No phones allowed as supposed to talk.

Elon was a regional school that managed to turn itself into a university. They have been adding programs and are doing well at attracting from all over. They tout experiential leaning and seem to have good outcomes in what they’re open for - business, communications, theatre and now nursing. Not sure how popular engineering is but they have it.

NC publics are cheap compared to many states so that’s where most are going, Wake Forest included.

Vibe is religious/evangelical, non-intellectual. Kind of feels like a Stepford version of college. Shiny on the outside but empty beneath the surface.

Outcomes are pretty questionable too, very low retention and graduation rate for the amount of tuition (just ~65% 4-year grad rate at HPU, for those comparing to Elon, it’s 80% so much better).

HPU = very dumb kids with rich parents vibe.

Elon kids weren’t getting into Harvard, but they are students who work hard and play hard.

Elon is more like kids that didn’t get into Wake or UGA. Harvard would have been a pipe dream.
