Most of Wootton families are in Rockville and Gaithersburg. The small
portion of Wootton on Falls road in 20854 are part of Rockville. I live in Rockville, 20854. I pay Rockville city taxes and get Rockville city services. The only Potomac elementary school at Wootton is Cold Springs .

Why didn't Potomac buy and donate a place they preferred to build a school? Since most of the Wootton families are in Potomac. Seems like that would have been the most prudent course.

2,400 students is not unusual for comprehensive high schools in the area. RM has almost 2400, same with BCC and Churchill has over 2,200. Even if they move some students out of GHS and Northwest, who is going to fill all the rest of the empty seats at Crown? Surely they didn't build the school for 1,000 kids.

If I'm the BOE or Superintendent I certainly wouldn't prioritize them.

Possibly but facilities also has created a new more functional way of evaluating all schools. Ideally that is what is used in adding kids to the schools unless something greatly goes wrong. And Wooten is not the only place that needs replacement/repair.

It's always been the case but the posts/opinions of some on this board is not a reflection of the actual population out there.
I think there are a good amount of parents that basically just heard “new building” and decided that’s what they want without looking at any of the other information. They are not thinking long term, they are not thinking of the boundary changes just “ohhh a shiny new building” and that’s that.
I suppose there are probably also differing opinions on the importance of the Wootton building's condition. Some parents and students may be more concerned about it than others, who value proximity more.
Does anyone have a sense of the views of Wootton teachers? They are who is affected long-term, unlike students who are only there 4 years.
My understanding is that they are 100% for it. Probably because of the reasons you just cited. This is their job. So they get a nicer looking place to work for the foresee able future. Probably few of them live within the Wootton zone anyway so I would doubt that matters to them.
