As someone who has a pretty good chance of getting RIFed when we reopen (or before), they could be my health premiums too. And I didn't vote for this. We need to slow down the wreckage, it's not like letting Republicans destroy the government unchecked only hurts half of us.

This. There are plenty of non-republicans who need the healthcare subsidies. Any one of us could end up out of work and purchasing our own health insurance.

What were people paying before these subsidies came during covid? Genuine question, I’m not really familiar with the details of ACA costs.

I’ve heard costs could up to $22K a year for a couple or a family, so besides the usual healthcare cost increases to everyone on non-ACA plans, why so much on ACA?

Gotta say if we don't reopen for another month or whatever - I'll take it. Staying quiet IRL as I'm sure most govt workers and my coorworkers disagree.

Yeah I’m there too. I appreciate Dems trying to save these people from themselves, but sorry folks, you get what you voted for.

Another +1

I didn’t sign up to protect the American people from the consequences of their own votes. Stop coddling them and let the subsidies expire. If they don’t like the cost increase then they can stop voting for people who prioritize tax breaks for billionaires and giving our money away to foreign counties.

This won’t be the issue you think it is.

The billionaire class fly private jets and can land anywhere, at uncontrolled smaller airports. Then have a helicopter make up any distance. They do this often anyways, because large airports like LAX can introduce delays.

This would greatly impact working people at the top of corporations that do not use private planes. All of the partners at my large top firm fly commercial usually weekly.

The oligarch class knows that the world can run just fine off zoom — if the “top firms” have to telework a few more meetings, that isn’t going to move the needle — and those firms are just support staff to the Mag7 masters of the universe. It’s like worrying your janitor has to take the bus because the subway is flooded.

That shutdown was pre-COVID, there are different expectations now.

Odd, their statements does not mention Democrats. Why did NBC editorialize the content?

“ “Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight,” American Federation of Government Employees President Everett Kelley wrote in a statement first shared with NBC News. “It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship.””

They editorialized the headline, which they do all the time.

For the largest federal employee union to call for Dems to pass the “clean” CR, it does put pressure on them. If they’ve lost the union that’s been fighting the administration on RIFs, etc…

No it’s not just headline. In the body the copy claims it but there is no relation the quote or attribution to a source

I doubt the Republicans are keeping the government shut down for health premiums, and I doubt they want most feds to work. So keeping things shut down is perceived by most Republicans as a good thing

Yep, exactly where I am.

DP - I completely agree, but I don’t think they’ll make the connection between them FA and now FO. I have no idea what it will take to make them realize and actually do something differently in the future.

The Dems are too talentless and gutless to stop anything. Stop hoping for the Governance Fairy to fix this mess.
The time to stop this has passed. The entire Biden era Justice apparatus failed us. Read the story of how it failed yet again (gift article) in trying to prosecute in FL.

I have suspected they are iffy when reporting, now I know they are. I’ll get my news from valid and reliable sources, thank you very much. I heard the same news this morning but no political party was mentioned.
