Are they often those who did not have an established adult in their life growing up, or they had one that was authoritative like their organe leader's father was?

I’m the PP who posted the 2016 Post article on the first page, and I found it when I was trying to find a different article that I read a while ago that absolutely proved that support for Trump is predicted by the supporter having an authoritarian father. I will try to find that link.

That's why they call him Daddy.

Much of MAGA stems from this:

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work...For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. (Titus 3:1)

When you understand this you will understand MAGA: we love God AND our country. The Democratic party is home base for atheists, queers (black sheep), and communists. MAGA is diametrically opposed to these types of people, hence the divide in our nation: sheep vs goats, God-fearing vs godless: righteous vs unrighteous.

This is not to say MAGA is perfect, for we are human, only that The Bible is our absolute and final authority concerning human origins, proper sexual behavior, and moral conduct.

I will pre-empt those who will say, “Trump did this….said that…”.

Individual candidates do not define a political party’s platform, so sayeth I.

There are certainly candidates who act like Democrats (I always thought Trump a Democrat for the Miss America sleazefest he oversaw), and there are greedy and immoral politicians but on the whole, the R platform is a force for good and best for America.

So, to be clear, you are anti-healthcare and you believe God will take care of your health? So you don’t want healthcare for you or your children? Because that is exactly what you voted for. You voted for more children to die from disease and malnutrition.
Fine- then don’t enter any more hospitals or medical clinics.
If you can be consistent with your views, I can understand and respect. When you waffle, it’s manipulation and not respectable.
Nobody is anti-healthcare but there is a considerable segment of the population who do not want their tax dollars murdering babies in the womb or paying for mentally confused people to get surgery and hormones to better deceive people that they are of the opposite sex.

Healthcare did not go away, nor is it going away because of Trump. Stop being a Democrat shill.

You need to go back to Biology class.

How can you expect people who believe they are feasting on Zombie Jesus every Sunday to understand biology?

DP: You lose credibility and the argument when you go full bigotry like that.

Its a wafer. That's it. To expect others to see more is the problem

Nobody expects others to see more. That does not excuse your bigotry about someone else's religion, not morally and not politically.

Othet than the trans issue which yes is biology related proving false by physical anatomy but also true based on genes by both parents and brain structure (we all are both male and female in terms of anatomy through genes and other biology not to mention human which bonds us all) that is the only science related issue I can get behind on the right and barely so. What about all the other science they are against? How do you as a wafer eating Christian and your party show belief in science and push policies that support science? The comment was people that believe in supernatural things are hard to convince of facts and I think this is a true scientific observation.

If you think we need "belief" in science or we need to "support" science then you do not understand science. We should always question which is the root of all science.

We should. But the very definition of faith is accepting the unprovable and unknowable. And many “faiths” support questioning only to the extent that it deepens faith and commitment to it. No one supports their parishioners questioning themselves right on out.

DP: I can only speak to Catholicism, which is certainly counter to what you suggest. In fact the opposite of what you state is the premise of what scholars call the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. My understanding is that the Jewish Talmudic tradition is quite similar, though I know far less about it. Faith is at the core, but that is not at all contrary to science and the study of what we can know and scientifically prove - if fact it demands such depth of inquiry and research. It's probably why the Big Bang Theory was first articulated by a Catholic priest and scholar, Fr. Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître. In studying metaphysics, epistemology, science, using the tools of logic and scientific inquiry, we may always come to the dead end, perhaps only temporary, where we then have to rely on forming new theories and faith, the belief that there is more to know and likely more than we can ever know, demands that we keep going. And yes, that's the hard stuff. But we never stop search and trying to prove and learn and we change with what we discover.

I get that not everyone raised in any given faith fully comprehends this, as most people stop leaning in early adolescence. But it is incorrect to say that all faiths discourage questioning and secular learning.

Catholicism definitely promotes trust in a hierarchy.

I identified myself as a DP. Why do you think I'm a Republican? My party is pro-choice, pro-vaccine, anti-death penalty, pro-LGBTQ+ and all equal rights. I believe in God and science, as do many. My concept of God is not a dude with a with beard on a cloud, my religion doesn't believe a wafer has human DNA (it is incredibly ignorant to think Catholics believe that), and when people start their debate assuming such nonsense, it really is hard to want to converse. But I'm still here.

But did you read the linked article about why PP was wrong about the Zombie Jesus issue?

My apologies. It is “living” Jesus flesh, not dead Jesus flesh. Not symbolic, that’s an Anglican thing. My childhood teachings are getting as stale as the Sunday wafer.

Still nonsense. Sorry if that hurts. Stay out of my uterus, that hurts me.

I'm not in your uterus. I'm Pro-choice. So please stop treating me like an enemy, and try to her what I'm telling you. You clearly did not read the article and are maintaining a fundamental and bigoted misunderstanding. What do you hope to gain from that?

DP: You lose credibility and the argument when you go full bigotry like that.

Its a wafer. That's it. To expect others to see more is the problem

Nobody expects others to see more. That does not excuse your bigotry about someone else's religion, not morally and not politically.

If you plan to shove your religion down someone’s throat, expect to see ugly and humiliating truths regurgitated on you. Expect to see your faith humiliated. I’m fully content to let people live their nonsense in private. But when it comes the basis for how I’m supposed to live my life it’s all going under the microscope.

When my Catholic ancestors came to this country they understood that.

I (still the DP here, not the person you started with) do too, and I am not shoving my faith down your throat (I'm a proc choice, liberal Democrat, btw, as are many Catholics and Catholic politicians), nor am I going to mock other peoples' faiths and beliefs, because that gets us no where but divided. Also, you did not regurgitate a "truth," you just proved that you don't understand what you are mocking and probably never actually looked into it, so you are too easily dismissed by people like the MAGA upthread, which isn't helpful. Your anger is apparent in your text, and [b]so it seems emotion is getting the better of your reasoning[twitter].

Probably. I’m an atheist, so it’s all BS to me. I also don’t see the point in “reasoning” with people who are content to bring Hell on earth because they think God is on their side. There is no reasoning with that. They didn’t reason themselves in, so there is no reasoning them out.

But if you have suggestions I’m happy to hear them.

I agree. I'm with you on how hard it is to talk to people who cannot explain their thoughts and beliefs, and who take serious action, like voting or crime, without being able to articulate and support their choices. I find it somehow comforting to watch the clips of smart reporters asking questions that get them tongue tied, and note how the reporter is respectful and not mocking. I'm not steady enough to pull that off in person, because I do get upset when people spout hateful nonsense. People react to anger and name calling with defensiveness and more anger and name calling--counter productive. But with the steady reporters, I like to think that tongue-tied person will walk away, not angry at the person who respectfully asked the questions, but hopefully really thinking about why they couldn't answer it. But, maybe that's the little Pollyanna in me.

How can you expect people who believe they are feasting on Zombie Jesus every Sunday to understand biology?

DP: You lose credibility and the argument when you go full bigotry like that.

I’m just debating the “science” here. Carbs don’t become a dead guy. DNA analysis proved it. And 6-week embryos don’t have “souls”, and don’t really have brains, either.

No, you just called the most sacred of all Christian sacraments "Zombie Jesus." Flat out mockery. You did not 'debate the science' nor is doing so necessary. Any Catholic priest will tell you there is no human DNA is a consecrated host. The faiths that believe in transubstantiation do not pose it as a physical or scientifically provable event. They teach it as metaphysical and spiritual transformation. It is a difference between the "substance" and the "accidents" (theological terms), the metaphysical and the physical. So trying to "disprove it scientifically" is just a gross misunderstanding of the Sacrament. Mocking it, is bigotry.

For those open minded folks who would like to actually understand this important distinction, including many Catholics who learned it with a second grade brain and never thought about it again and possibly misunderstood it for most of their lives, here is a discussion of this topic --and the exact mockery PP engaged in--from the Society of Catholic Scientists. https://catholicscientists.org/articles/does-contemporary-science-refute-the-doctrine-of-transubstantiation/

Similarly, any priest will agree that you cannot scientifically prove when a soul enters the body. Politics aside for a moment, this is why the Catholic theological, moral view is that one must assume it occurs at conception to avoid sin (and acknowledge that people do sin). That is their personal, moral, theological prerogative that does not have to be scientifically proved.

Politically, the unknowable, unprovable aspect of ensoulment is why others, including many Catholics and Catholic politicians, agree that the government should not be involved in what is a personal moral belief and decision, particularly because one must acknowledge that other faiths have very different opinions about when, or even if, a soul enters a body. Americans who believe in freedom of religion and separation of Church and state, including many Catholics and Christians and Christian politicians, understand that those individuals should not be held to the moral standards of another faith system, when the basis of all of them is belief.

Fabulous. Then let’s stop making abortion policy based on nonsense and faith.

Agreed! We need to do better in our elections.

If you think we need "belief" in science or we need to "support" science then you do not understand science. We should always question which is the root of all science.

We should. But the very definition of faith is accepting the unprovable and unknowable. And many “faiths” support questioning only to the extent that it deepens faith and commitment to it. No one supports their parishioners questioning themselves right on out.
