Kid #2 (next year) will apply to maybe 5, ideally 3.

DP here but my 3.7 WGPA kid just got accepted to Ball State in Indiana with 14K/yr merit, bringing the cost down to like 32K/yr.

How did they/you choose out of the 16 they got into?


They really had it down to 3. These were the original 3 from the get-go. Immediately declined all of the others. The one they chose was best fit and location for them. Admitted student days confirmed it.

Don't listen to this board, it's an echo chamber of parents living vicariously through their children. Just Google RA schools and discuss with your kid whether they would be open to any of them. Then throw that application in. You'll be surprised how quickly some accept your child - especially if out of state with no indication of need.


Should've added - Nonresident awards are often automatic at some state RAs so no FAFSA need be filed.

Kid number 2 has 4 in so far. All rolling. One of which is his first choice. He has maybe 5-7 more schools on his list.

Kind of seems like he wants to stay close to home. So, his list may change.
