Subject: Why is fascism more taboo than communism?
To make it simple.
In communism the state asserts control through access to production and forces compliance via the police/military.

I'd argue that companies can compete is better than the alternative, also that living standards did seem to improve in fascist countries more so than communist, though OPs question remains as to why it's more vilified given that both systems were authoritarian with mass killings.
In fascism the state directs public resources and provides monopolies to preferred oligarchs. That's the exact opposite of competition.
In fascism, average income goes up. In communism, median income goes up. One system produces higher highs and lower lows while the other produces higher lows and lower highs.
It's more villified (and based on the current political climate it is obviously not more villified) because fascism is primarily a system of political organization while communism is primarily a system of economic organization. In fascism, the economic outcome of oligarchs and corruption is a consequence of the political structure. In communism, the political outcome of repression and corruption is a consequence of the economic structure.
They both fail and result in the same horrendous outcomes for the same reason. They are both entirely about control and seek to punish non-conformists.

This what our awful two major parties have done. They have caused otherwise intelligent people to think communism is acceptable on some level.
I just want to send positive energy, good fortune, and endless love to all of my fellow American citizens who are fed up with the dysfunction of our two major political parties. We'll get through this, together, as one undivided nation of decent people. Let's all promise to take our voting privileges more seriously in upcoming elections.
As someone who grew up in a communist country, I do not believe that communism is inherently evil. It worked very well for 50 years, where I grew up and there was a much stronger middle class than we have here today.
