Medium-high stats, no interest in ivies either!

Smart kid. Ivys are a mess. Brittle people educating more brittle people. Go to Stanford.

Even back in the 90s, when perfect scores were rare and those numbers made an Ivy likely, the 1600s didn’t always want to go to them.

I am the PP who posted about Notre Dame. Was not bashing any schools. Just said he wasn't interested. He spent 3 weeks over the summer at a Brown summer program, and this helped him decide that wasn't for him. He also knew he didn't want a cutthroat environment. Yes, he found a great fit. Isn't that what this thread about?

Of course. Mine has great scores and has no interest in Notre Dame and so what. It's about finding a good fit.

If they aren’t special, how come everyone can’t stop talking about them non-stop on here and allowing them to occupy so much of their headspace on college matters?

Fine, mine have no interest either. Nothing special about those schools.

Mine chose Swarthmore over Brown. It's all good.

+100 it’s so tiresome, they totally do the opposite of what they intend by posting these things.

My 36 ACT high GPA kid with unique ECs also didn't want to apply to any ivies. He ended up at Notre Dame and loves it.

Both of my kids were like this. One DD was pure tech and wanted MIT/CalTech/Harvey Mudd, etc. She went to Cal Tech and is doing a MD/PhD ironically at an Ivy.

Other daughter only wanted to attend a women's school. Attended a seven sisters. Also eventually went to an Ivy law school.

Don't think too hard about this. Doing well matters as much as where when it comes to college.

The only harm which could happen OP, is if you do not learn/listen to their thoughts on what they are hoping for from their college experience.

I went to an in-state school. I chose it over admission to the "other" higher ranked in-state school I had very mature, important reasons. I won't go into it here but it had to do with the major. My parents were/always were so hung up on my choice of the lower ranked school, they lived the rest of their lives not interested in something far more important. Knowing their daughter better. Ok, I'm being a bit dramatic. But knowing my thought process, understanding that I had a life path in mind, that's more important. Decades later, I'm still proud/happy of my decision. I'm on very good terms with my parents, but they certainly missed a chance to know their daughter on a deeper level.
