My ds East Indian from dmv had 34 act too and was accepted to Cmu, gtech cs. But rejected uva, umich. So this tell me scores really a small factor it was rigor , essays and awards that matter heavily. Once you score above 1500/ 33 or 34 it’s a wash

Emory is a private school. Being instate has nothing to do with it.

A lot of his classmates go there. And he didnt need to try that hard in HS to get in.

I think the problem here is no unhooked applicant, no matter how high their stats, should approach admissions process thinking they are getting into any particular Ivy+ college. Those that do get their dreams crushed. High Stats + EC's + great essays and Recommendations get you a ticket to the lottery and from then on its pretty much luck/based on factors beyond your control.

34 ACT is not considered that high and national awards and lots of APs from a public high school don’t matter that much to top private colleges. You actually did really well if you got in all public ivies and got off waitlist of Dartmouth and Northwestern. Cornell would have been the best chance at an Ivy I would have guessed for this profile.

This is very similar to my dd from nova , who got accepted to Vanderbilt, northwestern, and nyu However did not get into uva, umich and ucla or Berkeley business. Same act score gpa 4.35 . Good ec’s but no national awards. Chose nyu . Though she really wanted uva or umichigan

My DC -- 1580, 56 credits (I don't even know how many APs, just know the credits -- all 5s), 4.92 wgpa/4.0 unwgpa - rejected at GT.

Where did they get accepted?
