It's so cute that they still think laws exist

The point you’re making is sad. What are they supposed to do? If they bow to current Dept of Education demands they are will be in violation of the last court determination of the law. Law should matter.

Correct, the law should matter. Thus Title IX the federal statute takes precedence. The 4th Circuit’s attempt and creating public policy from the bench will be overturned. Most school districts in VA understand this and have adjusted their policies accordingly. FCPS and others in NOVA will continue to support the unsupportable. The least they can do is join forces to save taxpayer money on legal fees.

I guess what I don’t understand is do you operate under what you think will happen, or under what currently stands? Isn’t that the issue here? If they changed their policy, wouldn’t that open them up to lawsuits for violating the 4th District’s ruling?

It's the 4th circuit, not the 4th district. The ruling did not say FCPS MUST provide trans accommodations, it said that in that case FCPS MAY provide trans accommodations. It also doesn't say that the federal government must continue to fund you if your policies go against federal policy.

For example, Harvard MAY racially discriminate, but the federal government doesn't have[url] to fund them if that discrimination goes against federally policy.

A state may lower the drinking age to 12 and increase the speed limit to 00 mph but the federal government doesn't have to find their roads if that goes against federal policy.

Usually these federal policies are codified in laws and not based on executive whim and that is a legit argument but you didn't seem to know WTF you are talking about

Am I misreading something here? I think the 4th Circuit upheld the district court ruling, saying that the school must allow kids to use the restrooms and other facilities matching their gender identity.

You are correct. The person you responded to is wrong. The Grimm case was very clear and remains in effect, much to the chagrin of local republicans who want to bully trans kids.

If someone doesn’t utilize the police department or fire department, should they get a refund too?

This is apples and oranges and doesn’t even make sense as a response to the PP. Tax dollars being used to fund a losing legal battle, after already funding a security detail for the superintendent, raises for central office, additional staff and office renovations for the school board, etc., is very different than spending those dollars in the classroom. It sounds like the PP would like to see tax dollars used to support classrooms, but instead we destaffed hundreds of teachers at the end of last school year, increased class sizes, and are using more of the FCPS budget for anything but classroom support.

um, no. using vouchers diverts funding from FCPS to private schools.

Um, you missed the point. FCPS is diverting funding out of the classroom at an alarming pace. The priorities that our school board and superintendent have for the FCPS budget are incredibly harmful to the actual education of children. You might not support vouchers, but supporting this board and superintendent is just as bad if you are concerned about the availability of funds for instruction in the classroom.

Wow. Neither PP, but I think you and I have a different definition of child abuse. And, there's the problem.

Agree. It’s so sad to see so many Americans welcome dictatorship when we have a system that was formerly the pride of the world. Why do they hate America?

You could try winning an election sometime instead of calling everyone to the right if you a MAGAT until they finally believe you.

I didn’t call anyone a MAGAT. Delusional and defensive.

PP here.
If you will notice, I did not attempt to make any argument. I asked a question, prefaced with, “…what I don’t understand…”.

They have a good legal case based on precedent but the hack Supreme Court will back whatever the dictator says.

This "hack" supreme Court is the only thing providing any limits on this administration. They're unelected, there's a limit to what they should be able to do.

Try winning some elections instead of just shrieking at everyone all the time.

Anyone who voted for Trump is brain dead

You are right, I'm not seeing the effect yet. I can see all that broken beyond repair, and have no faith that anyone will ever be held accountable for the harm done

Agreed. The cruelty is the point, it’s not about the law at all. It’s trans kids now. Who is next?

What you see as cruelty is the removal of privilege.

How can you possibly be so confident after what happened in November?

This election, where the governor's race is held on a off year, will be more like the prior virginia governor election than like this past election.

In a non presidential rate, voters tend to favor against the presidential party to give balance to the system. Given the Republican hold all three branches of Federal government and the top three positions (governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general) in the state, the tendency will be stronger than normal.

Also factor in the negative effects of the DOGE Federal spending cuts in Virginia, particular Northern Virginia, the most populous part of the state.

Also factor that Virginia is a blue leaning purple state.

Also factor that Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears is not running a great campaign and the down ballot effects when the office at the top of the ticket performs poorly.

Also factor the horrific job that Trump is doing. Admittedly this bullet point has an ideological bias. The big beautiful bill is/was extremely unpopular. The economy, in my opinion, is in a horrible position with the slowing job market and still rising inflation.

Lastly, as much as some would like to blame Democrats woke leanings as the biggest contributor to the November election, I think inflation caused by the global supply chain from covid and Biden's cognitive decline were bigger factors. Inflation is now on Trump's responsibility. Biden's cognitive decline is no longer an issue with Biden out of office.

Even with all that, Earle-Sears has made huge progress in the polls. That really, really ought to tell you something. It’s not good.

Absolutely disgraceful and disgusting that this woman posed with an assault style rifle. Our kids are traumatized by threats and the possibility of gun violence in their schools. Absolutely abhorrent.

Don’t care. Boys can’t be girls.

Only republicans believe in silly things like the reality of girls and boys being different kinds of humans.

Democrats know that the very concept of "boy" and "girl" is an artificial construct, a creation of the mind and a sociological agreement that can be deconstructed with a raising of collective consciousness.

Actually DNA is the physical construct that defines boys and girls. Democrats can use their imagination and change their identities as they see fit. It does not change biology no matter how hard they try.

Following science only matters when listening to their lord and savior, Fauci. You know, the purported inventor of COVID. Who lied to Congress.
