I think the flak is coming from the freaks who post that nonsense, a few of whom are probably stating their desired outcome in their accusations (i.e. that OP is "paranoid" or "triggered" in some way).

Most of the time, it's just a fake threat people post for fun, or emphasis. You can ignore it. People post all kinds of nonsense.
Maybe not in those words, but people often say they recognize a poster. I recognize one, but many other people also recognize J3 (?) guy. The guy with the very odd writing style who liked to talk about remote workers having 2 or 3 full-time jobs.
You think you recognize them.
Nah, they use the exact same phrases in all their convos. Syntax is pretty easy to pick up on.
So you're "'Nah,' poster"? A lot of people on the internet talk like they're on the internet.

If you can never recognize a poster, you might consider that you are not a thoughtful reader.
I'm glad someone else finally said what I've always thought. It's not a flex to say you don't recognize repeat posters. To me, it means you are not very observant or intelligent really.

NP. I am fairly certain Jeff’s software could be hacked by sophisticated hackers. That’s not a criticism of Jeff, it’s the reality of life for small-owner websites. Probably there are nefarious folks out there have lists of DCUM IP addresses because he stores them in plaintext.

How are we supposed to interpret your comment? Do you want someone to feel caught by your little "gotcha" allegation? Should we celebrate your sleuthing prowess and self-proclaimed intelligence? Personally, I think it makes the person posting it sound unhinged.
Why do people do this?

Anonymous wrote:While I don’t think I ‘know’ a poster, when it comes to particular intense chains, there are definitely poster(s) who become obvious because they post in a particular style with the same syntax, the same arguments etc. Could be one, could me more than one, not sure. These also seem to be (but idk) the posters who, when their arguments aren’t being supported, get angry and start insulting people, and then accuse everyone else of ‘sock puppeting!’ although style would indicate they’re the ones posting and reposting. But idk. I’ve never bothered to ask Jeff because well, this is a free board. You get what you pay for.
There are also poster(s) who go to the relationship and other chains where people ask sensitive questions about their lives, and then proceed to dump on them, saying they did everything wrong etc. I like to think that’s just one or two mean, unhappy posters, but I suppose that’s naive.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:People who have no real life outside of this forum.
It is unbelievable I know, but there are actually people in this universe who don’t have professional nor personal lives & choose DCUM as their only outlet.
And sadly these people actually feel like Masters when they claim that they can recognize a specific poster’s writing style, etc.
They actually are showing off how smart they (think) that they are when in reality they are the perfect illustration of what not to be.
When ANYone can recognize another person’s writing style, etc. then that is a clear sign that they need to step away from the online screen + get outside and actually do something.
Are you op?
