I didn’t get married until I was 32. Odd that you’re obsessing when she’s only 26.
I have 2 sons. I want them to be happy. If being married makes them happy, I’m all for it. If being single makes them happy, I’m all for it.

Did you go to college? Only the blue collar, uneducated people I know think a person should be married by 26. Tell us about yourself op.
My education goes past college, and I think people should marry before 26. I married DH when I was 25, and we've had a great 17 years together. I only wish we had started having children immediately instead of waiting a bit.

I do want my daughters to marry and become mothers.
But maybe my perspective is skewed because I'm happily married and (mostly) enjoyed parenting. I also believe that for most people marriage enhances financial stability.

Not PP but this is one of my fears, than my kid ruins their life next to a mentally ill person. I had a mentally ill mother (manifested after she had kids) and knowingly marrying a mentally ill person is ruining one’s life.

What a horrible thing to hear from your mother.
Why is this horrible? They need to know they have a choice and it is 100% up to them.
Your experience is not necessarily their experience. Just b/c your marriage was bad, you shouldn't try and ruin the concept for them.
I had a parent who was like the original PP. always would byatch and moan about how much work kids were, blah blah. Interestingly she would also use the “who would want to marry you if you don’t do X or do Y badly” argument, go figure.
I needed therapy to pluck up my courage to have kids. Both my brother and I are pretty good parents and we never regretted having kids. It’s not hell for us like it was for our mentally ill parent.
Parents should NOT take out their life frustrations on their kids and fill them with their fears!
