So, I'm not personally mourning the end of Colbert, but it's pretty obvious that Paramount is caving to Trump and using ratings as a fig leaf. That said, as a lifelong Dem, I hope we don't allow this bright shiny object to distract us from the really horrible stuff that Trump is doing to destroy our soul as a nation -- not to mention our economy. Playing culture wars games against Trump and MAGA is not a winning strategy.

Donald, is that you?
(How awesome would it be if he scrolled dcum and posted here? If anyone knows him, please turn him onto dcum.)

The problem is the show just became an I hate Trump program and that turns off more than half of the country. More men watch late night anyway and they are not buying what is being sold. The last skit on the fake Melania was plain mean spirited. No way they would be done to Michele Obama. Colbert used to be funny but he just became bitter and mean. John Carson is never to be replaced. He understood that his role is not politics. These late night guys could learn something. Kimmel will be the next to go. He just goes on and on and on and not funny.
Are you joking? There is no one more mean spirited than Trump.
The difference is Trump can be very funny at times.
What? Trump has never been funny!

He stopped being even mildly amusing years ago.
I think he’s hilarious. But he probably doesn’t appeal to dumbo MAGAs who think it’s the funniest thing ever to snap selfies in front of the “Alligator Alcatraz” sign, for sure.
It sure is interesting to read these unhinged political comments. What does Trump or "MAGA" have do with any of this? His show is being cancelled and you're blaming... Trump?? You people are beyond help.

Colbert gets under Trump’s skin, and he likes to tweet against him. The owner of the network needs federal government approval for a merger with another company. The network recently agreed to settle a case with Trump for $16m for the most ridiculous case ever - that 60 Minutes edited an interview with K. Harris and that harmed Trump somehow. Doesn’t even pass the giggle test and would have been thrown out of any court. It was understood that the $16m was to ensure the merger went through. Colbert (and plenty of others) called it out for being a bribe on air. All of a sudden this show is cancelled (remember the merger hasn’t gone through yet). Do the math.

Right? These old guys are unfunny progressive state propaganda hacks. Colbert used to be very clever and witty — but now he’s just an insufferable holier than thou dweeb. Honestly get a closeted gay vibe from him as well.
