Why are there so many more boys than girls in youth soccer? Is this due to some organizational/institutional barriers?
If the soccer demographics show a significant disparity in the number of boys vs girls starting at the youngest ages, why is it so surprising to see less women than men in leadership positions in the same sport?

This is such a funny comment... I think the least of women's worries is the youth soccer coaching landscape. We are not talking high paying jobs here. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be much of a desire from young women to move into the youth soccer coaching ranks. AND THAT IS OK!
Add to that that clubs / teams highly desire and are actively seeking female coaches

This is such a funny comment... I think the least of women's worries is the youth soccer coaching landscape. We are not talking high paying jobs here. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be much of a desire from young women to move into the youth soccer coaching ranks. AND THAT IS OK!

So, my DD had a female coach for one of her ECNL years and it was great. I think that the coach related much better to the players and was able to address things before they blew up because she got it - kind of the been there, done that thing.
Plus, she was also a great soccer coach as well with a ton of experience through playing D1 and coaching as well.
She wasn't a full time club employee though and she had a fantastic opportunity with her 9 to 5 that wouldn't allow her to coach this past year and next year as well. Same thing is happening with my DDs current coach. 9 to 5 is going to require great commitment, so he is also stepping back next year.
What they club did do though is they have brought in a young women as an assistant coach and mentor to the players - this starts formally next year, but she's been around a lot this year too and it's been beneficial. My DD has developed a really good relationship with her. Someone to talk to about soccer stuff outside of Mom & Dad.
