I was charged $120. And yes for a woman. Took her 10 minutes.
Yes, my stylist moved somewhere in Tysons that charges $120, I went once because I love her, but it's too much. Previously she charged $85 and owned her own place, so I didn't even have to tip. Now $120+tip plus tipping the hair washer ends up $150+ and is outrageous
This has always been a question i’ve wondered-do you tip at all if the person owns their own business and is the only person?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I have a question for you OP. Did you not ask the stylist how much the service would cost before agreeing to be serviced?
I ask because I always how much something will cost before someone does something to me or for me!
Op here. no I didn’t. because in my mind I honestly didn’t think it could possibly be this much-especially when it wasn’t a fancy salon (where it’s never even cost this much). I mean it doesn’t matter-I obviously paid it and that was that and I will never go to a place that doesn’t publish their prices again. That being said, this person is constantly recommended in local groups-and has been recommended when someone has asked for a great hairstylist at a reasonable price. That’s how I found her in the first place. So I guess I just expected run of the mill pricing. Clearly I was wrong.
OP, I wouldn't have asked either.

Holy crap. That used to be my $20 go to out of college when we were all broke.

Outrageous! I would ask to see a breakdown of that price.
She works for herself. I guess she can charge whatever she wants. But I won’t use her again obviously. And yeah I get that it’s an easy cut. I have gotten this same cut in many places and even in the nicest places haven’t been charged that much. But lesson learned.
Didn’t you ask for an estimate first?
Who asks for an estimate for a haircut? It’s not a car repair.

I am asking because I was just charged what I would consider a pretty insane amount for this (and this wasn’t at a fancy salon). But I haven’t even ever been charged this much at the fanciest salons.
Obviously it varies but I would really like to get other’s opinions.
$15 for men, $40 for women.
And why is that? It is far more complicated to cut my son's curly hair than my straight shoulder length cut. I've done both myself and mine is super easy. Why would it cost more?
The washing part Duh.

Did they wash your hair?
Yup. I have fairly short hair. maybe 15 minutes tops. the actual cutting probably took 2 minutes. it was literally a trim.
Price sounds in the range. I'm sure it took more than 2 mins. It's not their fault you have an easy cut. Trims are the same price.
Anonymous wrote:For straight hair and a trim ask your spouse, a friend to do it. Not worth the price.
