Remember when Rolling Stone published the article accusing UVA students of gang rape admitting UVA of covering it up, despite the whole thing being a total fabrication? The article that lost a defamation lawsuit?

That was 10 years AFTER Rolling Stone published RFK Jr's fabricated defamatory article against Offit.

Most vaccines go through placebo testing already. Usually happens in Phase III for new vax. Something already cleared say chicken pox, new versions do not need to go through a placebo testing phase because they use the data from the first trial. Just more expense nothing new here.

He wants placebo trials for everything, including vaccines we already know are effective, because he has no science education!

Vaccine expert Paul Offit from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has a great post on placebo testing. Worth noting that RFK twists his meaning of placebo when he states existing vaccines have not been tested against placebo.

https://pauloffit.substack.com/p/the-casual-cruelty-of-placebo-controlled

The fact that Paul Offit is routinely held out as a neutral expert on pediatric vaccines is perhaps one of the greatest acts of journalistic malpractice I am aware of. He helped develop I believe the rotovirus vaccine. While I assume at this point he doesn't have an ongoing, direct financial stake in the vaccine's continued availability, I would think, just as an obvious matter of human psychology, that, if there were a serious safety issue, he'd have every reason in the world to doubt it and hope it's wrong.

(I get that this link is to a substack, but keep an ear out for his name-- he's on the media circuit a lot.)

Distraction. Point is that RFK has falsely stated that existing vaccines have not been tested against placebo.

Well, if you think he's wrong, then surely you'll be onboard with his proposed regulatory reform-- after all, he's falsely saying it's not already the law!

He's going to DOGE it -- use something as an excuse to get through a real agenda which, although obvious, is never acknowledged.

Face it, if he REALLY was concerned about making sure things were thoroughly tested, he'd know that placebos were already used, and he'd want the vitamins and other bulls--t he's pushing to be tested, too. but, no.

Just like if DOGE was REALLY on about efficiency, they wouldn't be firing people indiscriminately or claiming bulls--t savings that have more holes in the numbers than cheesecloth.

There's a scene in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Charlie doesn't know what to say so he just says, "well, uh, filibuster." That's the vibe I get from your defensive but (no offense) not fully coherent incantation of the word "DOGE."

I assume your point is that RFK proposed an illusory reform that he won't see through ostensibly for budgetary reasons. If that's right, surely you're down to call his bluff and support it!

You seem weirdly excited to waste public money. (No offense.)

DP... Don't tell us you're one of those few gullible fools who actually still believes DOGE is "uncovering fraud, waste and abuse" - sorry but the overwhelming majority of that is not real, dear.

You appear unable to follow the conversation and keep straight who is actually who. Better slow your roll and reread.

It's all fraud, waste and abuse in this administration. Anti-science quackery spearheaded by RFJ Jr., and phony DOGE "savings." There's nothing else to follow in this conversation. It's all garbage.

So you think only vaccine experts who have … never developed a vaccine … should be listened to? Plus I think Offit understands better than most the issues with vaccines since the first Rotavirus vax was pulled due to serious side effects.

lol solid shot trying to make this sound stupid, but yeah, I think that if you have a reputational and perhaps financial stake in a proposition being wrong, you're not the ideal neutral arbiter of whether it's right

Who said we should have “neutral arbiters”? Your definition of that would mean basically nobody with any actual expertise should be listened to. No thanks.

I respect (though don't totally agree with) this take. More nuance than we usually get here.

I respect Paul Offitt. He quit the covid approval board (or whatever it was called) because he didn't think there was a need for boosters when most Americans had not even received their first covid shots.
