It sounds like Trump watches tv a lot, and that contributed to my dad’s decline. (Though my dad watched westerns and such, not Fox. 😉) Fox’s drilling down on the same thing over and over, is not expanding one’s mind.

My father reads voraciously, tries learning languages of countries before visiting them (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German), took classes well into his 80s and played tennis and walked every day well into his 80s. He is now in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, so I am. To sure about your thesis.

That said, Trump is definitely demented

DP. Despite your father's experience, multiple studies have shown that "individuals who were more cognitively and physically active were able to delay their clinical Alzheimer's disease diagnosis and cognitive decline." Not prevent necessarily, but delay.

Noticeable cognitive decline is inevitable for 99.9% of human beings by the age of 80 and for many, cognitive decline is apparent before the age of 80. This is why it is absolutely bat poop crazy for the most powerful country on the planet to have elected people as old as Trump and Biden to four year terms in consecutive elections. Americans should be ashamed of themselves.

Please post research that shows this. I've known many people who are extremely sharp in their late 80s and early 90s. My mother was working until she was 96, and she was a psychotherapist. She was brilliant, and her mind never wavered, but her body gave out on her.

This is one of the problems with our country. People take a single personal story (" my mother was sharp until she died") and try to argue that this shows everybody is like their mother. When will people realize that a single instance of something in means absolutely nothing? Maybe try thinking about the vast number of over 80 year olds you know. Surely you know at least 100? Would you say most of them could do math in their head as fast as they could when they were in their 20s? If not, yes, there is some "cognitive decline" (and please don't argue that doing math is not cognitive because the OP said "some cognitive decline" not "decline is some specific area you cherrry pick".

Since everybody lies and politicized "science" is totally untrustworthy...first hand information from your own eyes and ears is by far the greatest source of truth .

and your eyes are telling you that most over 80 year olds are as sharp as they were at 20? that they have no cognitive decline? that they learn as fast as they ever did? really? maybe then you need cataract surgery.

Why would you think Haley would be better? Yikes.

You think Haley would trash the constitution, run constant bitcoin grifts, let Elon access government computers, defund science, destroy our soft power power, and extort law firms? She would not. I still would have picked Harris over her, but Haley is not the authoritarian, criminal, conman, anti-American, sadist traitor that Trump is, no.

That’s the thing, you can talk about decline all you want, but Trump just wasn’t very sharp to begin with.

He wasn't very sharp or intelligent or curious. But he was a good bullshitter. Watch interviews with him in the 90s. Hell, watch his debates just 9 and 10 years ago.

He's a jerk. And stupid. And now he's losing what brain cells he did have.

We just have to let the train wreck happen. That’s the only way this is going to end. Republicans will not stop it, so let’s let them take the lead and responsibility for the big crash.

No his brain is like “oh a Black person, I should talk about a Black people.”* He can’t compute that a Black person might be asking him about Harvard.

*His brain might use different terms

Wow this really does seem like he was getting them confused, even while he was talking with the way he was going back and forth.

It just really feels like everyone’s crazy uncle somehow became president.

Could be his hearing is declining.

At his age, there is 100% certainty that his hearing AND eyesight have declined.

Which explains a lot. He cannot not make out the difference between the tattoos and the superimposed MS13, and he cannot hear very well.

My mother is 74 and has similar hearing and eyesight problems. She also is prone to rambling and jumping from topic to topic. She's not as vindictive, but she's very riled up against her neighbors!

Trump was photographed wearing glasses in court while reviewing papers. He actually looked better with his glasses.

I'm sorry to hear that. He may have gotten dementia earlier if he had not done those things. We just don't know enough about it.

So sad and pathetic. He’s such a disappointment.

Trump knows the photo was fake. After the host points out the MS13 "tattoo" was photoshopped, Trump starts to insult the host by saying the host is so lucky to have the "break of a lifetime" to interview him and "frankly, I didn't know who you were."

Trump knows what he's doing here and is a personality disordered and insecure ___.

I can see your point. My own parent was similar with the dementia and TV. But I never knew if the TV watching was a result of the dementia (easy to just watch) or if the TV contributed to the dementia.

You're right about learning languages. I was reading about that and learned that a second language can delay dementia, but it won't prevent it. Diet plays a role, too.

Trump has a bad diet, I hear.

Alzheimer's and dementia start long before we know it.

Two of the most obvious are the lethargy during the day and the insomnia from sundowning.

Another obvious marker is his change in posture and the way he walks. It's called dementia posturing. It's when they have a stooped posture and a lean when walking or standing. The next decline you'll see is him missing stairs because their depth perception is usually the next thing to go.

My dad was like this. Early on he realized something was wrong, but when he got to Trump's stage he had no idea.

You recognize that both of these things can be true, right? 99.9% of people decline over the age of 80, means 0.1% don't or do so to a much lesser degree.

That is wonderful, but surely you realize how incredibly rare this is, right? Never in my life have I encountered someone in the workforce in their 90s. I can’t think of a single business that would hire an 80 year old for a high-level position.

+1

If our local school system hired an 80 year old superintendent (or school principal since most of them work harder than superintendents), many folks would be outraged. Magnify the important demands of that job by a 1000, add in a four year term and that's the job of POTUS. We'll be scratching our heads for decades trying to figure out how we were duped into the Trump/Biden presidencies.

Yep.
Imagine being at Thanksgiving dinner and your cousin mentions they are applying to Harvard, and grandma started rambling about Harlem and all the blacks who live there. There would definitely be a side conversation later about concerns over her cognitive decline.
