I am from a very Catholic family. I grew up lighting candles at church with my grandmother and my dad goes to weekday morning mass. I have moved away from the church and I am critic of a number of things, but I still strongly identify with my upbringing. I am deeply offended by the White House post of Trump dressed like the Pope. The Pope is closest to God - his representative on Earth. It would be deeply offensive for anyone to “cosplay” the highest leader of the Catholic Church, but a morally corrupt sinner like Trump literally makes me sick. What was the purpose of this post, if not to belittle the Church and the conclave. Really? Explain it to me like I’m five years old. And since Vance isn’t a real Catholic (just a late in life fringe convert for political reasons) it is unsurprising that he didn’t ask for it to be removed or call it out.

I'm only loosely Catholic, but I know my pious, politically conservative Godfather would be deeply shocked at the Pope Trump image. Thank goodness he was never taken in by Trump for a second.
