Yes what OP did was a little selfish, but it was a one off. It would be like if you jaywalked on a busy street one time to make an appointment, or double parked one time to run in for takeout because you were in an unusual hurry. Those are annoying, selfish behaviors. But if someone did them ONE TIME and felt bad enough about it to post about it here, I'd be like "don't stress about it, next time come up with another solution."
I am glad we get trash pick up twice a week. Every once in a while it's only once a week because of holiday scheduling and it's pretty gross.

Public trash cans are an extremely limited resource.
You shouldn't double park for takeout. You aren't that important.
Is this regional or something? At our local parks, there are giant trash cans about every 100-200 feet. Ramadas full of parties etc all weekend long, sports fields with snack bars and lots going on. Tons of people grilling. A small bag of trash like that would not even be noticed, and I’m pretty sure the cans are emptied daily. I’ve never seen one overflowing.
Fairfax County. They get emptied once a week. They keep removing the trash cans at my local park.

It was some food leftovers from Easter and some old fruit, so I didn’t want it sitting in the can for a week. I took it in my car and stopped at our neighborhood park and threw it in the large trash receptacle. A woman walking by told me what I did was “disgusting”.
Be glad you didn't get caught. That can be a huge fine, not to mention being arrested.

I'm sure your respective county/jurisdiction has something similar
Because we all have time to take half a bag of trash to Gaithersburg? You’re nuts.
