By the way, your point is no longer accurate. All non-citizens in the US who do not have green cards are required to register with the government, as of a week ago.
All these people are now in criminal violation.

Exactly. The PPs that keep using the word "illegal" seem to think it means "criminal" when it comes to immigration status. In fact, it's a civil matter, not a criminal one. Here are the facts:

*Entering the U.S. without inspection (e.g., crossing the border without a visa or going through a port of entry) is a violation of immigration law—but it’s not a criminal offense in most cases. It’s a civil violation, similar to overstaying a visa.

*Overstaying a visa (which is how a large number of undocumented immigrants become undocumented) is also a civil infraction, not a criminal one.
So, while being in the country without proper documentation is a violation of immigration law, it’s not the same as committing a crime like theft or assault. And importantly, seeking asylum—even without a visa—is legal under both U.S. and international law.

In short:
👉 Being in the U.S. without a valid visa is a legal issue, but it’s not necessarily a criminal one.
👉 The term “illegal” is not a legal classification and is discouraged by many legal and human rights organizations.

And, yes, taxpayers who work ARE supporting them. Who do you think pays school taxes for families with 4+ kids? Not poor immigrant families crammed into Section 8 housing.

+1 don't forget the hospital bills. Glad to hear they're not going to be taking up housing vouchers anymore. It's been long overdue to share this information for deportations. It's crazy that they have declared to the government that they are here illegally but still receiving benefits. They should also check parent birth place information on every birth certificate issued.
