I loved wine - I loved cocktails - but once I hit 50 it became too hard to manage the negative effects (sleepless nights, feeling groggy the next day etc.). Over Covid one too many happy hours caught up with me. I'm much more mindful now - I still drink but less frequently and when I do drink I drink more water than alcohol over the course of the night. I'm much happier and feel and look much better, so yes, I guess I did outgrow it to a degree. I think its pretty normal - most of my friends are careful too.

Don't drink cheap garbage. It's the non-ethanol fusels that are damaging you and giving you the bad feelings.

Also hydrate well before, during, and after drinking.

And don't have more than 1 drink per hour, and 4-5 drinks maximum per evening.

Do that and you will never feel bad after imbibing.

Maybe for you.

If you are human. It's basic science. Guess you are not human? Does AI feel human?

I used to love it, caused such a pleasant dopamine rush just on that first sip even. Started ADHD medication a few months ago and have had zero desire to drink. At all. I’ve lost 10lb and sleep so much better. Wish I’d treated my ADHD like, 20 years earlier. I’d have probably done way better in school too as a bonus.

I'm 49 and have given up drinking for two months and feel that my skin is glowier, I have more mental clarity, and am laughing more easily, and have lost 1 inch off my waist and butt each without dieting!

That said, I did love having wine each night -- I'm in a professional setting where there is a lot of whisky drinking/wine with folks -- but have just found I can hold a glass, and pretend to take sips, and no one notices.....When I did drink, I never felt hungover and could have 3-4 glasses with little effect.

However, I just spontaneously quit two months ago as about to turn 50, and don't want to get the fat/red skin of a big drinker...so, lol, this is ilke my mini hormone therapy.....

Yeah…no, this isn’t me. I’m mid-50s and still enjoy drinking and getting a buzz. It’s not often, but it never was. I still really enjoy tipsy sex when I can.

I had a two glasses of wine and a bigger lunch out yesterday - as in, indulged in olive-oil soaked bread before my light entree and split a dessert with DH. I didn't want to eat dinner and was in bed at 8 p.m. Felt like taking the day off today. My husband teased me that I'm becoming our parents ("We ate a big lunch today, we don't need dinner!"). I'm 48!

I'm 56 and I stopped drinking around age 49. I have never been a consistant drinker, but I enjoyed a glass of wine or a cocktail when out with friends or at a party or work event. Now, I no longer drink at all. I drink only water and tea. I feel and look great and it helped navigate through menopause and I sleep like a baby at night. I do not miss alcohol at all.

I always thought there was no point in drinking if I didn't get really tipsy. So, I got super drunk a lot starting from 9th grade, but after college I stopped drinking at all cause I wasn't partying as much.
