- Sofa in room
- Balcony (mainly to dry out DH’s funky workout clothes)
- adequate counter/storage space in bathroom
- mini fridge with room for our own things
- good lighting in bathroom
- adequate closet/dresser space

I find if staying somewhere for more than a few days now, I really need either a suite or to do an Airbnb. Can’t stand feeling cramped and it’s nice to have separate areas to relax that aren’t just a bedroom.

I mean, I think we can all agree that a hotel room should be clean, right???

For me, a view only matters if I'm on vacation. It's nice to have on a work trip, but not a deal killer for me.

I get super annoyed when there isn't a coffee maker in the room. I really want to have a coffee first thing in the morning and I do not want to have to go downstairs to do it.

I also want a good gym.

Quiet. I scour reviews to see if anyone mentions noise in the hall or next door. This is the main thing I care about as I am a very light sleeper.

A suite or seperation of the beds, so I have different space than my kids.

I do like a free breakfast and coffee on property.

Embassy Suites are great. It’s not the Ritz, but rooms are spacious and for a free breakfast, it’s pretty good.

+1. My teens love Embassy Suites. If you offered them Embassy Suites or a fancier hotel with just 2 Queen beds and no free breakfast, they would take Embassy Suites all day long.

It’s nice when they are that age to send them down for their own breakfast when they get up.

So you are basically paying $100-200 for a pretty lobby.

Quiet. I need to not hear the tv/convesation/s-e-x from next door. Or loud noise from the hallways.

I would literally pick a silent run-down motel room over a lux hotel room that has thin walls.

I actually love it in the old motel rooms (I think I had this at Grand Canyon) where they have that big under-the-window air conditioner thing that is so loud -- because the white noise from it drowns out anything else noisy.

Have you never been to Europe? Asia? I've had some exceptional free breakfasts at hotels overseas before. They are nothing like a Quality Inn free breakfast. Also if you have high status with chains like Marriott or Hilton and stay at the higher end properties, they have amazing free breakfast buffets.

I don’t like to eat food that’s been sitting out while tons of people pick through it. Even high class people.

Non slip shower. I hate the showers in baths that you have to perform gymnastics to enter and exit.

And the shower has to have a freakin' door. I don't mean as opposed to a curtain, I mean I've stayed in multiple places now where the shower is open to the rest of the bathroom. It's terrible.
