Where on earth is this in FL? Maybe you and "redneck striver" poster are from the same dysfunctional place because this is the opposite of the FL I know. You also both sound quite mean currently so that mean streak stayed with you.
Many of us have actually been to Florida. It always has attracted people that see a bit off, and that was before the MAGA infusion post Covid.
Adding I am not either of the posters you reference in your post. There is just something off about a state where no one raises an eyebrow about their governor paying to ship migrants from another TX to NY.
Nearly half of Florida votes the other way.
It really doesn’t matter when the government making decisions about finding and administration of the flagship is entirely red.
Why are you blaming people who vote like you and inferring they are "a bit off"? It is illogical.

Unfortunately, my kid did not apply for Honors. But he doesn't seem to care too much about it. As a parent, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of travel.

The Florida elite doesnt send their kids to Gainesville….
What a weird post.
I’m from Florida and that true. -redneck striver who got out
Sounds like you have a lot of insecurities linked to your upbringing. Pretty sad for a middle aged person to be so stuck.
Absolutely true, I have had lots of counseling to deal with my rough upbringing, and the difficulties that I had to overcome to have a life in the DMV. would not recommend Florida for that reason, as you’ll be going to school with my peers from similar backgrounds
You are still stereotyping a state you left 20+ years ago and kids you have never met. I'm in FL and I'm not sure what a "redneck striver" is. Everyone I know is from outside Florida/outside the US.
Why in the world do you think I left 20 years ago? It’s true, but I still go back and have family and friends there. It’s not like it’s had a renaissance - the people who are moving to Florida post pandemic are of similar type.
Maybe you know Miami? That’s a different state entirely than the rest of Florida, which is more Mississippi and Georgia
I’m from FL too with the sibs who went to UF and while harsh, imo there is a nugget of truth to what the pp is saying. I still have lots of family and friends there and go back often, but I’m from a wealthy coastal part of Florida which generally speaking might as well be a different world from the interior of FL (minus parts of Orlando).

Austin is very blue. It is silly that you would completely discount a 4 year opportunity over something like that. It makes you as close-minded as the people you disdain.
