Well... if you were "just in Switzerland" you were likely asked for your passports at hotels. Pretty clear with that, even if you aren't "wearing American flag clothing." The minute you open your mouth it is clear as well to most people.
Yes…but most people aren’t hotel clerks. And no one knows who you are from your accent. Swedes basically speak flawless American English. Better than we do, frankly. Literally no one cares where you’re from. The idea that you should refrain from travel because you’re American is ludicrous.
