Same as a lot of people. Spring break was already booked and mostly paid for in advance so not cancelling. We normally do a two week trip abroad somewhere pretty cool and then a one week trip domestic usually at a national park. January and early February would be my joyful months of planning those trips, but I’m not going to this year. I thought about keeping the one week trip to a national park but the idea of going there and seeing huge lines and trash everywhere and unmonitored parks just makes me so sad. So, I think we are going to do a long weekend at the beach. FWIW-I am not fed and neither is my spouse. However, many of my clients are federal employees, and I’m a little anxious that they won’t have the funds to retain my services so this is an example of trickle down tightening the belt

I am still going to Copenhagen for spring break. I'm not terribly worried about the opinions of the US because I'm frankly disgusted with the "administration" and the people who voted for him. I've never had issues getting along with others in Europe, even when I've been approached about my political opinions...I've had some amazing dialogue tbh, especially with other women and I've found that I share a ton of values with many of the women I've met. I am staying with friends. If things become super unsafe in the US, I will stay there with my family until we can figure out our next steps.

I do have a trip planned to France this summer with my mom & sis but we got budget tickets so if it falls through, it is what it is.

We have an annual camping trip planned this summer too in Maine.

I'm holding off on booking more trips right now to see what happens in the coming months.

Some of us actually know how not to travel like a stereotype, and we have no problems traveling outside of the U.S.

Well... if you were "just in Switzerland" you were likely asked for your passports at hotels. Pretty clear with that, even if you aren't "wearing American flag clothing." The minute you open your mouth it is clear as well to most people.

Yes…but most people aren’t hotel clerks. And no one knows who you are from your accent. Swedes basically speak flawless American English. Better than we do, frankly. Literally no one cares where you’re from. The idea that you should refrain from travel because you’re American is ludicrous.

It is totally ridiculous. I have American family living in different places all over the world (including Europe) and no one gives them a hard time. Absolutely no one.

Not cancelling, but we held off on booking summer vacations and we're glad we did. With all this uncertainty, and one parent employed as SES Fed, we'll likely have a much quieter vacation with roadtrips than what we initially had thought we would do this summer.

We just booked a spring break trip to Hawaii today. I’m Fed-adjacent but DH makes twice what I do and with everything that’s been going on this year (not just in politics but personally) we feel like we need something to look forward to with our kids! However, we have always been very aggressive savers and investors and are projecting to reach our NW goal for retirement within 5 years, so that context factors in heavily.

Usually I'm an early planner, but this year my siblings in law wanted to rent a place together at Deep Creek or something, so I put off booking our own trips since my husband wanted to prioritize seeing them. It's STILL not booked, and probably won't be until May with their history. I hope we can still afford to pay 1/4 of the cost of whatever is available by that point.

Otherwise we'd been saving for a western national park trip. Not sure that's happening, between likely loss of my job and the NPS being decimated, but it sure is a bummer.

Luckily our procrastination in planning both spring break and summer vacation has paid off- nothing to cancel and we won't be taking any trips now that DH is most likely out of a job (USAID) and mine is very tenuous. We're definitely cutting down on discretionary spending in anticipation of living on one salary (mine is lower) and the upcoming inevitable shutdown. We have HS 9th and 11th graders so college is very much around the corner.
