Not a fed hater by any means but I can see why this is happening. You can’t reach into the cookie jar too many times! Most Feds became accustomed to WFH and assumed it was (is) birthright. I know a few who openly bragged they never plan to retire - a paycheck and full benefits for life, all while sitting home. It’s natural for sentiment to build to these levels when so many who are struggling to go to work every day just to keep a roof over their heads. I personally know a 65yo woman who takes three buses daily to get to work, with health issues. How do you think she feels when she hears all of this? I think some of the arrogance of fed workers brought this along.

How is anything Trump is going going to help her? If anything her retirement is now at risk if SS gets messed with or 401ks drop due to market instability.

Her buses will sit in even longer traffic because of everyone on the road.

Why would she want fed employees and contractors to get laid off (making it even more of an employer’s market and driving wages down)?

The rationale thing to do would be vote for politicians who support expanding social safety nets and increasing taxes on the wealthy to help the middle class, not voting in a billionaire agenda including people who have blatantly made comments about wanting to cause a recession and causing average Americans pain in order to carry out their agenda.

It is no secret that the work-life balance is a strong recruiting tool for the government (to offset lower pay). This is like being jealous of people who go into big law for the high pay or people who become teachers for summers off.

And many of us had telework well before COVID. My agency had it in some form since the 90s. It was part of why I chose my job despite the lower pay, but now after less than 2 weeks of job searching I already have interview for a position paying 50% more (and and is hybrid so now the government is not competitive with pay or flexibility).

I’m curious exactly who you want to work for the government? Do you think the job should offer abysmal pay, a demolished pension, and strict in person requirements (like this administration is pushing for?). Because you sure as hell aren’t going to make the civil workforce “great again” by making the work miserable.

Where was I?! I was home with my special needs kid trying to balance virtual schooling and working late into the night because I am in a role essential during shutdowns that directly affects many Americans.

I was also continuing to vote for politicians who supported expanded unemployment benefits and PPP loans. So I was wearing myself thin working while supporting financial support for those not working (I understood I was very lucky to be employed).

I also did things like leaving large tips on takeout orders.

What I wasn’t doing was taking joy in people’s suffering because I’m not a bitter psychopath.

Many feds in the better paid roles offering work-life balance and/or telework are there because of life choices such as attaining higher education or as a result of gaining many years of experience through work, usually beginning in lower paid, sometimes physically demanding roles. Nobody lands a GS-14 remote job right out of college, and if they did, I would want to kick their ass.
The idea that people who are smarter, work harder, and make better choices should have to continue to have the same struggles that a gas station or retail employee sounds a little like Marxism.

It’s 2025, I have no idea why some can’t understand folks working hard and accomplishing things while working from home. Five days a week? No, but 3 days from home seems reasonable. Nothing “efficient” about dragging staff into an office and risking missed meetings work for commute issues for something all can do from their home offices.

And why is it that fed workers draw their ire? And not the billionaires and 1 percent profiting from others’ labor while enjoying lower taxes?

It’s natural for others vitriol to rise when they are struggling just to get to work while they “perceive” others such as feds to be living large, job security, no commuting, good compensation, etc. Why is this concept so foreign to Feds? If I were a Fed, I would lay low, keep my mouth shut, do my job, and not gloat while others are struggling. I saw the resentment building…

Come back when you start to feel the impacts of a purposely diminished government. Maybe someone in your family will die of a pathogen or a car accident (which could have been avoided with appropriate safeguards, regulations, and testing in place). Maybe your kid won't be offered any merit aid for college despite how hard they worked to keep that 4.0, because the universities are no longer able to be generous. Feds are being treated inhumanely. The rest of the country is going to have to feel it unfortunately.

To be fair, the not enough doctors is an AMA deal. They lobby Congress to have barriers (eg, limited spots in residency programs) to increasing doctor numbers in order to keep their salaries and demand high.

Well I guess you can blame the govt in that aspect since Congress implements it, but it’s not a recent phenomenon.

Honestly, by accepting some of it.

People are going to get SO SICK of Trump and revolt. He's not going to have Congress past the midterms, and a Dem president will probably get elected again, just like the end of Bush 2 and Trump 1. Just hold on for the next 2 years and remember it's all temporary.
