Per CWG - "Snow could be heavy at times this evening before easing in the predawn hours. After a pause, a wintry mix develops Wednesday afternoon before turning to rain overnight."
Anne Arundel county for today:
"Due to the forecast for significant snowfall that could inhibit the safe transport of students home from schools in the afternoon, all AACPS schools will operate on virtual learning schedules on Tuesday, February 11."
"Could...Safe transport..." They got a virtual day and it hasn't started snowing. So, why was it that MCPS can't offer a virtual day to avoid adding more days at end of year?
I am confused about this becuase I thought it was the state that wouldn't allow a virtual day unless school was already closed for at least 2 weeks.

Capital Weather Gang:
The snow moving in later today will tend to be heavy and wet in our southern areas, rather than powdery. This could cause some scattered power outages. It will be a bit lighter and fluffier to the north, with a low outage risk.

Before snow begins, noting that we generally lean toward lower end for totals than high b/c of temps, maybe sleet + questions re: how heavy precip will be. Biggest bust potential Leesburg to Frederick & NW.
HRRR model snow forecast shown here (note that it assumes all snow will accumulate but some will melt at first b/c of temps above freezing).

Read that last bit. They need qualified lawyers on their team. "Have instructed bus drivers to...impede visibility"? So all those other announcements/calls saying they need to make sure 13,024 bus stops are safe(r) to safely open out of abundance of caution and now putting this on bus drivers.
Pick up your kid early if you're concerned. Next thing you know you'll be saying we need to close because of rain.
How neighborly of you to offer to pick up kid not everyone is as privileged as you![]()
Odd response when the pp wanted school to close early for everyone.
No need to screw up things for everyone because a few people are scared of water.
You mean when families asked Grandma to be on standby and was getting ready to leave to pick up. F u
And now grandma has more time on her hands. This is only good news, despite your desperate attempts to try to claim otherwise.
Oh right, so grandma can drive back in the snow. F u again
You can have grandma pick them up whenever you want. Or you can pick your kids up. Or you can have them take the bus. Lots of options.
Privileged poster. Not all get bus service. Do your research before you post.
It's not privilege. It's planning your life with some nod to being a responsible parent.
So parents of students who don't receive bus service are not responsible? As a previous post upthread, fu.
Choosing a school without bus service, and then complaining about pick-up, is not acting as a responsible parent.

I would say closed tomorrow but who knows anymore.
I don't understand. Why wouldn't you want them to "double down" on the right call? The more recent forecasts show precipitation and colder temperatures starting later. The roads will be fine for elementary school kids.
I see a high amount of uncertainty, and their same announcement acknowledged difficult bus routes. Neighboring districts, local colleges, the federal government are closing. If they guessed wrong, they end up looking really bad.
