Regardless, if what Biden did is so awful in your eyes, there is no possible way for you to defend Trump’s efforts now. You cannot claim Biden somehow attempted to exceed his authority more than Trump is now. At best, they’re the same. In which case you should be up in arms at Trump. But you’re not. Why?

So far they are going after things that are relatively unpopular, especially with conservatives. DEI, USAID, and a generic “fraud”. Even the Ds have admitted that foreign aid is not a hill they will die on, even if they think it is a good idea. Attacking research is a tougher battle, but they’re already spinning it as attacking “woke” colleges. CFPB doesn’t register with the public and people don’t really know what Dept of Education does.

So, I’m not surprised that there isn’t any blowback yet. It all comes down to the economy and people’s pocketbooks.

The question is are the red states actually feeling the pain of current actions.

I know the junior senator from Alabama is kind of going nuts over the cut to NIH funding because UAB and UAB Birmingham really, really need that money and they are big employers.

I guess for now they are treated the same as UC Berkeley…I guess?

Not remotely similar. Biden tried to do what he wanted and stopped when a court told him he couldn’t. Then he tried again. And again stopped. Trump has given an unelected, unvetted billionaire who takes billions in government subsidies access to all of our sensitive systems and personal information. He has made our systems vulnerable to cyberattacks. He is allowing that person to cut things funded by congress. He hasn’t followed court orders to unfreeze grants.

While I probably wouldn’t agree with his choices, Trump is entitled to make cuts within his purview. But he isn’t entitled to disregard the constitution like he is a king or dictator. He needs to work through the intentionally slow process set up by the constitution. And it’s troubling that so many maga are so quick to give up on the constitution.

Donald Trump is trying to legalize political corruption for everyone by revoking the foreign corrupt practices act. He’s fired every internal watch dog and has given Americans PII to teenage cyber criminals with nazi sympathies. He is gutting agencies that keep us safe and healthy, and is trying to fire every FBI agent who worked on J6. The student loan forgiveness plan was an overreach, but it is not comparable.
