I swear I wonder how some of you make it into adulthood and still have no reasoning or logic skills. A person is not asking for special treatment or accommodation when using the seat as intended. The one behind her who had his knees in her seat IS!!! So the person who doesn't fit in the seat that he purchased should buy a different one.
How do you think this is logic? The tall person is also using the seat as intended. The premise that all tall people (and you don't even have to be that tall to have this be an issue) just need to buy more expensive seats is actually not using reasoning or logic skills. The clear logical conclusion is the seats are not big enough. Take it up with the airlines.
If you are intentionally ramming your knees into the seat in front of you then you are not using it as intended. If you can't fit into the seat, it is not the problem of the person in front of you to deal with. So YOU should take it up with the airlines.
But it's this intention we can't know without observing the situation.

I can't believe you can't see the difference between a baby crying and a full-grown man acting like one.
The full grown man acting like a baby is OP. He's the only one upset here.
Nope. OP has a right to her/his seat. Stop encroaching on other people's spaces. You are entitled to one seat in an airplane. Not two or however many you feel like taking.
A seat is a fixed, hard object. A person's knees touching the back of that object is not "encroaching on other people's spaces." OP is a drama llama. And a mean one too. His poor wife.

Of course, there is something you can do. You can have the flight attendant tell him to put his knees down and treat him like the toddler he is.
Flight attendants are not going to do this. And there is no “down.” That is just where the knees are. Maybe not on a 5’9” person like in the OP. But on a 6’2”+ person? That is just where the knees are and no FA is going to say something about that. Any more than they are going to call out a fat person. Stay mad.
If you don't fit in the seat, buy a bigger one or don't fly. Stay mad right back.
If your lower back is so jacked up you can't risk being jostled at all, buy a bigger seat or don't fly.
I'm not OP. You don't get to jostle me and tell me to like it you moron.
No one is asking you to like it. People are saying to get a handle on yourself and show some grace in circumstances that are yes, challenging. Some of you are just such gross humans.
I show grace to polite, considerate people. Ass88ls get what they dish out.
Serious question what do you want the tall person to do in this situation. What would make them considerate and polite? Not talking about the 5-9 person in OP's post who yes was probably being a bit of a jerk.
My son is 6-5 and I'm not thrilled about him being out in the world with aggressive people like this when trying to fly. He's not going to be able to fly first class his whole life.
No one is aggressive. We are indeed talking about an inconsiderate 5.9 person who didn't have to have his knees in OP's seat. Nuance in situations matters. If your son can't fit in the seat he bought he should absolutely take it up with the airline and not make it a problem of an unsuspecting person in front of him. But I blame the airlines and not your son, obviously. The seats are too small.
So he should take it up with the airline (useless) and in your mind still never fly.
Why do you think he is entitled to fly on top of other people?
I was trying to have a genuine conversation. Nevermind.
No, you weren't. How do you propose your son flies without inconveniencing unsuspecting travelers around him? Or why do you think he is entitled to that?
DP here. No one is making you fly. Oversized people are just less whiny about being uncomfortable than you are. Sizism is still a problem that needs conquering.
No one is making me fly, true. The difference is that when I fly I don't need to take up space reserved and paid for by others. When you pay for my ticket too then you get to tell me about sizism![]()

The world doesn’t work the way you wish it did. I’m not sure what to tell you. It must be a frustrating existence.
Another entitled a$$ole who thinks he gets to just take up space paid for by others. I will gladly teach you a lesson every time you fly since your parents didn't.
I sincerely hope you are nobody’s parent.
I am but I teach my child to be considerate and kind and not be an entitled jerk like you.
Poor kid. I bet you are a mean, bully dad.
Yet, I'm not the one inconveniencing anyone when I fly. Again, you lack any kind of logic or critical thinking skill.
So you don’t even deny it. Cool. You must be a hoot at parties.
How can I deny something so ridiculous it can't possibly be true? Again, if you can any reasoning skills you'd know.
It can’t possibly be true that you are a bully? The entire premise of your post is mean and hateful and lacking empathy.
Yeah staying quietly in my seat that I paid for without bothering anyone is me lacking empathy. But kneeing someone's seat maliciously is so considerate.
You are assigning malicious intent where none exists. My DH isn’t trying to piss you off. That’s just where his knees are. Such is life in economy air travel.
Stop trying to make everything about you and your husband. OP complained about someone who is of average height and absolutely did not have to have his knees pushing her seat.
Nah. It didn’t happen. OP just added the 5’9” detail to make the person sound like a bigger jerk. I’m 5’8” and it would be really comfortable and pointless for me to do what OP describes. He sat in front a tall guy and he hates it.

It is very difficult to rationalize "teach my kid to be kind and not an entitled jerk" and your insistence on doing what you are entitled to do, no matter who it inconveniences and makes uncomfortable.
