These are local social service organizations which receive funding to administer government contracted services. How on earth is the fact that reputable organizations are doing what Congress asked them to do through legislation a bad thing?
Lutheran Services works with refugees. I helped out some afghani refugees with assistance with Lutheran Services.
Elon has no context for what these contracts and payments are for because HE ISN'T A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE! He’s randomly looking at payments and trying to justify his illegal activity by making people angry. He’s such a tool!

Which countries no longer have starving children as a result of all this funneled cash?
Wow. I often wonder how people could have voted for Trump. Then I read a response like this and see there really are awful, cold hearted people out there!

And it also takes away our soft influence and opens the door for china and other rivals to fill the vacuum.
Exactly. We are showing our weakness and are ceding power to China.
Musk is attempting to curry favor with China.

But the total spend is not just a drop in the bucket.
The money is typically 100% support, with no strings attached, that is, free money to citizens in other countries. I believe that charity is a wonderful thing, until and unless it eventually causes potential corruption and out of control spending.
Maybe it did not need to be put at a full stop but someone needs to take a second look at how it's run. In fact, we have a lot of federal departments that should be evaluated. We should have a legit process in doing it which I definitely believe we won't have under Trump & co., but the idea that USAID and all these agencies should and can just go on till infinity running the way they are currently is contributing to the downfall of the US. The spending must stop. It is as nuts as Trump is in a manner of speaking.
