While UMich does give need-based aid to low income students, they are nonetheless need-aware OOS. One might wonder whether not just full pay, but wealthy, families have an increased likelihood - this is wild speculation - anyone know whether that's the case?

Sometimes 20% of the private school class.
Agreed. 4 kids in from one nyc priv alone
I think our local private went 0-40.
lots of us outside DC on here.
michigan has known feeder schools in both new york and chicago (i mean they have admitted students' days JUST for Chicago high school kids in Ann Arbor!!)
I have relatives at several privates in both cities. at one (Chicago), reportedly 15-16 kids got in (class size is under 100). at one in NYC, reportedly 12 got in. and yes, we are all texting non-stop about this.
Those schools probably have a good track record of actually attending UMich. Michigan is in that tier of schools that is tired of being dumped by anybody who gets a wink from East Coast privates, so if your school's accepted students tend to do that, you can expect to have a harder time being acccepted there.

A PP...a few months ago, I tossed a brochure with 2021 matriculated data by geography because it was too old to share in detail. Haven't been able to find new data to match. However, it definitely looked like Chicago and the NYC Metro Area are bigger areas for student recruitment than DMV.
There was some official data analyzed by the Michigan Daily a few years back that showed that the NYC public science h.s. magnets are also feeders to Michigan.
I wonder what kind of visits/college fairs Michigan participates in. Perhaps it helps a lot to meet AOs when they are in-region.
My son is in-state. He went to an AO presentation at his school, two webinars, and a campus tour. I believe that any participation or info request checkmark will do for demonstrated interest (they don't need you to come to campus because that can get unfairly costly). However, I wonder if timing of checkmarks or multiple checkmarks helps.

Sorry. Let us k at your schools previous applicants and see what stats are there for kids who were deferred. May have a better chance than you think.
