+1. I agree 100%. I was going to buy this year, but I now think I really need to give things some time to shake out. The disruption that's about to occur to this area is going to be dramatic, and I think people are in denial.

That's one hypothesis. The opposite is just as likely to happen. Things remaining the same is just as likely to happen. In other words, nobody knows. The way it appears now despite the previous messaging: In no way Trump's administration and DOGE and an army of tech billionaires are making it about reducing spending, if anything it's increase in spending. They want to do more, not less. How do you "revamp" stuff without creating extra jobs? and many of these jobs will be in IT/tech sector which isn't the lowest paying compared to Fed jobs being lost. The only way you could be possibly right is if they decide to "shut down" DC altogether and migrate new jobs elsewhere with all the work done remotely. But they want RTO and to fill empty DC DT offices that are paid for but underutilized.
I’ve heard they want to export around 30% of the fed jobs to other states. Plus it seems they will be eliminating many others. Then there will be the loss of people who won’t tolerate the conditions being imposed on them, like ratting on coworkers, RTO and such. The ones who can will find new jobs elsewhere. The ripple effect on other businesses and sectors will be quite significant.

IMHO, both Mclean and Bethesda threads have noting to do with either of the locations but with a topic that's better discussed in the Political forums or Local DC metro politics. It's about panhandling and homelessness, etc, e.g. social issues the entire metro area is facing. It's irrelevant to discuss this here because there isn't a single area of DC metro (or any other major metro areas TBH) that does not have this problem. Both threads are distracting to click on when they essentially discuss one topic that doesn't belong on the RE forum.

Pleas for sympathy here a based on a belief that government-provided support is insufficient, a dubious proposition in view of the high taxes in Fairfax County and the existence of plenty of shelters and social services.
If you think government support is not in fact adequate, you can always voluntarily add to your taxes so the government can do even more. Or you can give money directly to people who are addicted, mentally ill, or who are con men and women, in the optimistic belief that they will spend it wisely and helpfully.

It would be nice if I could buy a 1950s ranch there because it is half way between my work in DC and DH’s work in Reston. We cannot afford to buy there right now. We really could benefit if prices would drop about 10%. Thanks!

Really? I hear that said more often about Great Falls these days, given that some areas there are closer to the Herndon than McLean middle and high schools.
Expect to pay top dollar for any single-family neighborhood in McLean.

+1. People tend to forget, ignore the inner struggles of others while never bothering to examine their own conduct. Once they get a few bucks in the pocket, they look down on others. People on McLean streets may be begging - they are neither forcing you to give nor stealing, threatening. On the other hand, I personally know more than a few “high class folk” in McLean who routinely steal from their clients, patients, customers, business partners.
