At party venues, you only get like 30 min in a party room so cake is served immediately since they want you to get out. Maybe they didn’t have a knife or forgot plates or something.

We have been to a party where the family forgot to order pizza. Another party the family didn’t serve anything. One party mom forgot the cake from home. It happens.

Definitely didn’t leave early-we were one of the last to leave actually. It definitely wasn’t a “forgot” thing as after the birthday child blew out the candles they eventually put the plastic cover back on the cake. So that was a conscious decision-didn’t just forget the cake was there. The whole thing was just bizarre. It’s fine if you don’t have cake but then why have a cake just to have the kid blow out the candles and disappoint all the other kids?

They are weird. And as an adult who loves birthday cakes, I personally would have been disappointed 😂, my kids would have been too!

But with so little food out at this party, I wonder if they were having a family party later and needed the cake.

If this is the case, please don't have two parties.

THIS. If you are going to be this cheap, why bother having a party and dragging everyone out to some playground in December? Especially since it's a 4-year-old who probably won't care.

- I think they couldn’t afford food/cake/venue.
or
- Culture difference( although I personally can’t think of any culture cutting a cake and not giving)

What I dont think is, they knew they were “being cheap.

OP here-obviously I don’t know any specifics because I don’t really know them but they are a white, blonde family with no accents that I could detect. But again, Don’t know any real specifics about them other than what I could see/hear.

Ok … not sure I have the answer either then. .. except that really was weird.

All the farfetched explanations like squirrels, etc. are ridiculous.

They're just cheap, plain and simple. Tacky and cheap.

This is very strange. Was there not enough to go around?
