For three years the crime we all experienced and saw with our own eyes wasn't really happening and now we get to celebrate it going down. What a city.

Will be happy to be very wrong but I suspect that his highly divisive politics and dumb economic policies will lead to a new surge in crime …
“A year-end analysis of violent crime in the District shows the rate of violent incidents is at a 30-year low. According to a presentation from the U.S. Attorney's Office, violent crime overall has dropped 35% over last year, from 5,215 incidents in 2023 to 3,388 so far in 2024. Homicide is down 30%”

Have you met the interim US Attorney for DC? Let’s just say he’s not a fan of crime. [/quote
I hope so. I don't know much about the acting USAO, except that he's some kind of conservative culture warrior. But if he turns his attention to tough on crime prosecutions in DC, I am all for it. I noticed that crime in DC made the front page of reddit yesterday - a viral clip of three feral DC teenagers beating the crap out of a middle aged woman at L'Enfant Plaza. Judging by the thousands of comments, there is universal support for harsh sentences for the violent youth that have been rampaging though DC for about five years now. This isn't a racial thing. Everyone is scared of these teenagers who seem to have no self control at all anymore. And generally, people don't report these assaults because police and the DC judicial system do nothing. If some right wing prosecutor wants to change that, I am 100 percent in support.

Everyone knows that homicide is the only police stat that is trustworthy. David Simon even did a whole season of The Wire about it.
DC already jukes the stats on “violent crime” in quite obvious ways, for example, only reporting stats for ADW but not for simple and aggravated assault, which is data they are presumably providing to the FBI.
This. Homicide rates are the indicator for serious violence in a region, they basically can't be faked. I don't trust aggregate "violent crime" stats because serious instances of violence like homicide are swamped by decisions on whether or not to charge minor assaults or robberies.
You do realize homicides were down by 30% in 2024 too, right?

Yay DC?
Not to mention DC’s government blatantly lying about a drop in crime when we all know that just is not true.
