Pretty sure most parents would opt for a league that is more local if they were getting the same recruiting opportunities as they get in the current system. There's a difference between traveling to fun places a few times a year for soccer and doing it on a regular basis to play average competition.
What club do you play for? DD’s team was in NJ last weekend and played against awesome teams.

It's usually mediocre or poor quality soccer.
So definitely not a luxury item.
