some "groups" have learned to park like this no matter where vehicle is parked. Won't get into it here because it might be "racist" for moderator, but learned about it from a co-worker who explained it. Makes so much sense for anyone to do this tho.

This person is being as ridiculous as the OP. Parking front in and backing out is neither better nor worse than backing in and driving out. Each version takes a little more time in one direction than the other.

Driver's ed in some communities teaches one, and in some communities teaches the other. As someone pointed out above, in many African countries this is just how people are taught to do it. Some white people assume that if they do something one way, and black people do it another way, that the black people way must be "low class" or lesser. It's pathetic.


I've never heard of it being a race thing, rather a military or law enforcement thing.


It’s definitely a white dude in a big ole pickup truck thing.

Ugh so many people who insist on reversing are so bad at it. It drives me crazy. I swear I can pull in get out if my car, shut the door, open the door, get out go into the post office and then get back in and back out in half the time it takes most of these people to back in.

I don’t back in because I’m bad at it but it’s clearly safer to back in since there is no traffic on your driveway but some traffic on the street.

+1. There are certain spots in my driveway where my car won’t get ice/snow/frost because of the way the sun hits.

My parents like backing in because they can load items/unload groceries in an organized way that is easier.

I back in so I can unload everything from the trunk more easily. Also, occasionally there will be a landscaper’s truck parked on the street, and I can look for bikes and kids on scooters better if I am facing the street when I leave. Hope this helps OP understand why.

Double driveway - I back my daily driver into the space closest to the house's entrance so I A) don't need to walk around the car, B) have a wide berth to swing the car door open, and C) for my dog to jump down onto soft grass vs hard driveway.

Second car, I pull forward into the adjacent space (farther away from the house's door) because I still want a wide berth to swing the door open (and not hit my daily driver) and for the dog to have a soft landing spot.

LOL. We recently went to dinner w friends and then drove 5 minutes to an event. We pull into the small parking lot and car is having trouble backing into space, so we’re cursing and then realize it’s our friends. I admit I thought a little bit less of the DH after that. 🤔

No because backing out usually takes one attempt. In my experience, in America, people backing in take on average 3 attempts as traffic backs up in both directions.

Wouldn’t you be just as likely to run the kid over backing in, as backing out?!! That sounds like an unimaginable tragedy but it doesn’t sound related to which direction the car was headed backwards - toward or away from the house
