Projected revenue is $155 million. If Fairfax County only gets 30%, that $45 million is about 1.5% of Fairfax County's budget. Hooray? What a windfall?

Brick and mortar casinos are a poor investment. Unfortunately online gambling will overwhelm traditional casinos in 10 years and any revenue projections are inflated.

Scott Surovell is a sleazy tool and he’d authorize crack sales in Tysons, too, as long as he could cut a deal with politicians like Louise Lucas (herself an admitted drug profiteer) and get a few more dollars for his rundown district off Route 1. He is going to bring down a whole slew of local Democrats like Dalia Palchik, Jimmy Bierman, Rip Sullivan, and Jennifer Boysko, who’ll get tossed from local office once the Republican candidates point out during the next election they didn’t stop their Democrat buddy Surovell from trying to inflict this unwanted casino on local residents. Good riddance.

So, here's my take:

-The General Assembly legislators are passing the buck. I hope the citizen opposition will be enough to overcome their desire to cater to the unions, but it might not be. Because they can pass this bill, and maybe (unlikely) Youngkin vetoes because he's also looking at his political future. So it's passed and then the buck passes to the FFX Co. Board of Supervisors and then they have to deal with the pressure from Comstock and the unions. The casino isn't going in Surovell's backyard so he doesn't care and he keeps Comstock and the unions happy because he tried.

This is so stupid, I am speechless. To plop a casino in an area already choked by traffic with the busiest highways intersections near the beltway and residents complaining about cut through traffic through residential streets it completely asinine. I cannot believe they compare this to the MGM, which is in an area that has nothing around but a cluster of hotels, very different. Tysons is one of the busiest residential and commercial clusters in DC metro and has traffic going in all directions. Plus gambling is a terrible addiction and having one medium size metro area have too many of them is going to be devastating to many families who don't know where to move anymore to get away and not have such easy access.

This bill sets a very dangerous precedent for the state legislature to override local zoning and encourages corruption. These shenanigans will not stop at Northern Virginia or be limited to casinos unless there is backlash from voters. We don’t want the legislature overriding local affairs to benefit the ultra wealthy at the expense of local residents.
