Did you just tell her to lose weight, or are you doing anything to actually enable that, like cooking healthy meals, hiring her a personal trainer, taking care of the kids while she works out? Because if all you do is criticize, she could just hop on a hot guy who likes big women.

Well your mom clearly has a great personality so there’s the explanation! Usually there’s some obvious explanation list this where it’s clear the woman is really smart with a great personality and the guy values that. Your DH doesn't feel dependent and resent that the higher standard of living is based on your salary?

But I also know women who are pretty or average married to very handsome men. In the cases I know of, the women were very, very attentive to them. These men have little love notes tucked in places for them to find and their favorite meals cooked for them, etc. I don’t think the women do this to keep them - I just think they are very attentive women and the men preferred a nice woman who is totally in love with them than a gorgeous one who is going to save that favorite meal for his birthday.
