No. 150 years ago, I could not have been admitted to any of the hospitals in my area because I’m Black. A skilled lay midwife could have figured out the cord was wrapped around DD’s neck twice and maybe saved her, but she couldn’t have done a thing about what happened to my body after delivery.

I was a csection. I think my mom didn’t labor long enough though.

My last two babies were shoulder dystocias. I also needed tons of pitocin for all births. Not sure if they’d be alive.

I definitely would not have survived childhood; had to be hospitalized for the chicken pox and almost died--before the vaccines were available.

No, and neither would my child. Premie who was in the nicu for a month.

Yes. I had three easy pregnancies and “easy” un-medicated deliveries.

Yes, both me and my kids were birthed without epidurals. There was no time. I was 7 cm when I got to the hospital. I pushed twice and there he was, healthy as a horse. I was released from the hospital in 2 days. My mom was similar. No epidural and quick recovery. We got lucky.

Yes. My body has its faults but is very good at having babies. All three were totally uneventful, short affairs. Second one was no meds/ no obgyn or midwife present (not by choice - he came quick). My own birth was similar: 8lb twin delivered at 40 weeks with no complications.

Yes fortunately. But my sister, best friend and a few other friends would have died from breeched birth (likely), hemorrhage, and preeclampsia. Ironically my sister kept encouraging me to deliver at home or a birth center - I insisted on a hospital because birth has never been kind to women.

Think about it this way, of Henry VIII six wives, 2 died giving birth (Seymour and Parr) (and two of the six (Cleves and Howard) were never pregnant as far as we know). Even Queens of England (and former Queens of England, as Parr was) died giving birth. Henry VIII's mother also died giving birth.

Definitely makes you appreciate modern medicine.

First one was emergency C-section due to surprise breech. I was ready to push and bam it was babys bottom instead of his head. Went on to do two vbac and they were fast’s births. Third one no time for epidural. Not sure if I would have survived. Two babies were in the NICU for several days.

No. Kid may have made it, but I would not have. HELLP syndrome.
