Why only the top? There should be crossover play, one region could be stronger than the other
I don’t mind crossovers if there is a winner/loser bracket like they do in National Tourneys. But you have some schools who lost at Districts. Lost at Regionals. And now have a 3d bite at a post season in the state tournament.
But to advance to state a team would have to beat a higher ranked team in the crossover in Regionals. So perhaps one region is stronger than the other. That’s the whole purpose of crossovers
I guess. Still not a fan. And genuinely not seeing the scenario you describe much, if at all, the last few years in our region.
