Summary
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to notify healthcare providers, public health authorities, and the public about current increases in human parvovirus B19 activity in the United States. Parvovirus B19 is a seasonal respiratory virus that is transmitted through respiratory droplets by people with symptomatic or asymptomatic infection. In the first quarter of 2024, public health authorities in 14 European countries observed unusually high numbers of cases of parvovirus B19. In the United States, there is no routine surveillance for parvovirus B19, and it is not a notifiable condition. Recently, CDC has received reports indicating increased parvovirus B19 activity in the United States.

This is called Fifths Disease. It’s not usually dangerous, though pregnant women should avoid contact with people who have it.

Many preschoolers get this along with the other common childhood viruses. Not sure why the panic.

Some people are desperate to find something else to freak out about now that covid is a non-issue.

Spare us your uneducated takes again and go back to school redo 5th grade and up.

This has to be the single most uneducated post that I've seen. This does not belong in the MCPS forum, but PP, you need to go back and do some research on many, many parts of the COVID response if you think this is an accurate reading of the pandemic. - MPH

Here is report by the AP
"A rare but deadly disease spread by mosquitoes has one town in Massachusetts closing its parks and fields each evening. Four other towns are urging people to avoid going outdoors at night.

They’re concerned about eastern equine encephalitis. State health officials announced last week a man in his 80s had caught the disease, the first human case found in Massachusetts since 2020."

Schools will give your kid a kit but you must request it from the school admin. Not sure if they will give it this year as they did if you asked last year.

Covid hasn't been a problem in more than 2 years.

How do you define "hasn't been a problem"? I know multiple people who have gotten Long Covid since then that's significantly negatively impacted their lives, I don't think they would agree with you that it hasn't been a problem for them...

It hasn't been a public health problem. It's been a problem for small group of people-- mostly people with anxiety.

No not all have anxiety. Good for you that you don't know people who have and are still suffering from cov id.

Will schools or county health department be sending home cov id test kits or distributing them before school starts?

Why should they waste money on them? If you want one go buy one.

It would be a huge waste of money. The vast majority of people aren’t testing anymore. You want to? Fine but you buy your own tests.

Not all, but most. I'm sure you've seen the studies confirming that.

And you can buy your own tests.
