I actually really like the vaccines part. People forget that it was weirdo progressives into "alternative medicine" that were doing the anti vaccine work for a long time. Much of Oregon was anti-vaccines.

Well, Biden has the strictest immigration policy of any American president ever, so I don't think Trump has that ground. And most Americans support the war in Ukraine and... vaccines? I mean, I guess Biden has tried to steal Trump's thunder ont hat one, but yeah, yeah, yeah we remember, he did Operation Warp Speed and pushed the Covid vax on us, and it was hugely successful... so I guess if he can really remind people of that, it could help with the pulling some Dem voters.

That said I was a moderate until Dobbs. Personally pro-life, but incensed at what’s happening to women in this country. I have a ton of GOP friends who believed Roe was safe in 2020 and they now parrot the “state’s rights” line. I was naive and believed it too. I won’t fall for that again and have read all I need to know about Project 2025.

Environmentalists vs. unions is another conundrum, but the fact that the GOP will NEVER lift a finger to help any of them keeps them all in place.

In the 1950s there was some interest from European socialists in the USSR, but there was never any connection between Western liberal parties and the USSR and the Democrats were virulently anti-Communist through the 1960s, by which point interest in Communism in America was dead.

But, again, Russia hasn't ahd anything to do wiht communism for decades -- there hasn't been even any stereotyped or imagined affinity between the left and Putin, ever. He's always been anti-Democratic, pro-oligarch, pro-oil, anti-minority, anti-self-determination and anti-human rights. He's a rightwinger and the connections have always been there with the GOP but it's only recently that it's become so public.

Hmmm... the US has supported independent Ukraine for decades, starting with Clinton. But why would I imagine that Russia is the USSR? It's a totally different country, differnet politics and their governments are unrelated... Liberals have long opposed Putin's persecution of minorities and human rights abuses. There's been no connection between the American left and Russia—Soviet or not—since pre-WWII.

According to some Putin is a Soviet revivalist and he wants to return to the USSR. In the past lefties wouldn’t give a rats ass about this .
