Folks...this is DCUM so guess what...we live in DC and our kids tend to work and live in DC, Boston, NYC, SFO and other cities where a young adult doesn't need or want a car.
I get that many people on the site are very suburban or live in anywhere US...but you can't come to a site with DC in the title and claim we live in "a bubble".
Most of the affluent 20-somethings working in DC have a car.
No they don’t…some do, but most don’t. Why make s**t up because you know one person that lives in downtown DC and owns a car.

+100 Mine is heading to NYC. No car is needed. We will furnish the apartment instead.
All those posh apartment buildings in Brooklyn have garages.

I will buy cars (not fancy but a Toyota or similar) for my kids after college. Will also likely help them with down payment on house. Would be honored to pay for weddings. But they are both doing well with good heads on their shoulders. Happy to give them a leg up. It would be different if they didn’t show common sense

We bought them new cars for college. They are free to keep using those for work or buy new ones with their own income.

That’s…not how credit scores work. My first loan ever was a mortgage and my credit was over 800 just from years of on time rent, utilities and a credit card. You don’t need loan history to get a good interest rate.

I had a car during highschool (dads old csr when he upgraded). I drove that car to my first job post college and saved and dad took me to buy my first car and helped sort out the loan through his credit union and gave me $5k for the downpayment.
