Here is what my household does -
- All kitchen waste is composted
- All grease and fryer oil is recycled at the county recycling center
- Minimize packaged food and no plastic bottles of water, soda or juice. Also, empty all beverages from plastic bottles before discarding.
- Minimize use of toilet paper by installing hand held sanitary showers
- Install solar panels (and first install good quality roof)
- Plant native trees that can provide food and shelter to wild birds and animals. Plant 5 trees for every person in your household. Do vertical gardening and sow creepers to provide shade in small areas of your garden.
- Do not fertilize or water your lawn. If you cannot replace the turf completely then start over seeding with clover. Let your lawn become full of weeds so that it can feed pollinators. Sow a pollinator friendly garden
- Don't keep pets. Instead make your yard into a habitat for wild creatures.
- Have one or two areas in your yard where the grading is low and water accumulates there - you can dig out the soil to make a rain garden bed and plant thirsty plants there. Prevent runoffs and rise the water table of the area.
- Plog. Pick up trash when you go walking.
- Have no more than 1 or 2 kids.
- Become vegetarian for most parts.
- Use EV. Cycle to short distances.

The whole "it's pointless so why bother" attitude is the wrong attitude to take. If each person does a little to help, and you multiply that by the population of people on earth, imagine the impact.

I wish solar panels weren’t so terrible for roofs. my Brother is a roofer and the amount of damage solar panels cause to roofs is ridiculous.

Going forward they should make all new roofs that are installed “solar ready” in that there should be a standard shape and size and hookup situation where is someone chooses to go solar it’s already made for it. But long term, new roofs should be required to have solar. Like most things, if it becomes the standard it’s better for everything, cost, accessibility etc…

Of course the small things we can do are going to be a drop in the bucket, but that doesn't mean you should not do it.

Three things we have easily implemented:
Bamboo Toilet Paper
Composting.
Eat less meat (we don't cook red meat at all anymore but might get it at a restaurant every so often)

It might not be the most impactful but clearly the EASIEST thing you can do to help the planet AND IT"S FREE is to pee in the shower as you take one. Just think of all the water we'd be saving if we all did this. Millions of gallons per day.

Put sulfur back in diesel fuel.

Buy larger gas engines for our cars so we can zoom zoom.
Fly farther more often.
Replace our lousy heat pump with a gas furnace.

Force progressives to take off in electric jets.

Ban aircondition

Staying cool isn’t necessary for survival and we’ve been told global
Warming is an apocalypse

Stop over-consuming! Start with Christmas - make it simpler.

My goal this year was to buy no “new” gift boxes and gift wrap from stores; instead I bought NWT supplies from thrift stores.

My decor is all vintage - I rarely buy any new holiday specific decor. If I buy “new” like string lights, again all from thrift stores. Far easier to deal with natural wreaths, boughs, decor than to add more plastic to landfills.

I stopped buying dumb seasonal products - I don’t need Halloween blankets, Valentines Day toss pillows.
