A few months ago I was chatting with a coworker. I thought we were friends. Then she referred to me as her "work-mom". My first instinct was "I'm not old enough to be anyone's mom! ESPECIALLY not an adult's!"

But .. I'm 47. She's 27. People have kids at 20. Not any people I know, but other people do.

When 80s Day was a theme for my DC’s homecoming spirit week.

When I was menopausal & diagnosed with osteoporosis at 47.

When my forever-young, energetic, kooky MIL got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 74.

Good God 100! I hope I don't live that long. Remember, you would be getting old along side of them... Double slam for depending how many grand folks are alive, up to quintuple $$$ costs for your children. Can't imagine not having kids.

Thursday when I met with the daughter of a friend and colleague because the daughter is a college intern where I work.

Before that was when no one in a training class I was in had ever seen Hunt for Red October (the instructor used the Crazy Ivan clip to demonstrate a point) and asked if Alec Baldwin was "that guy from 30 Rock."

I turned 50 a few years ago and realized that I met my MIL 30 years earlier at her 50th birthday party.

When I think something happened “a few years ago” but then remember… pre-COVID was 2019 and it was longer ago than that.

I was at a restaurant owned by "Larla." I mentioned to another customer that I had tried Larla's new recipe for scones. He asked "Are you Larla's mom?"

I laughed for a second. Then I thought about it and in fact, I am old enough to be her... arg.

Wow, small world. I just googled Michael Stipe and Natalie Merchant the other day and had a similar reaction. Though in fairness the picture I saw had Natalie aging ok.

+1 I saw an interview with the members of REM the other day and they showed pictures of them in their prime…and then cut to four old men, and it just made me want to cry.

I was telling a story to coworkers who are 10 and 15 years younger than me, and the younger of the two said it reminded her of her mom’s childhood too, though she at least acknowledged her mom is a little older than me.
