OP, I am not sure why other posters are giving you such a hard time. I think your post sounds sweet and perfectly fine.

+1

NP. OPs question is perfectly fine. It’s the suggestions from others that she needs to go on a Lululemon and Nike micro shorts shopping spree that people are balking about

Why? We were asked what middle school girls wear, and many of us concur this is in fact what they wear. OP ASKED. We weren’t saying “All girls must wear this or else!”

This. OP asked for suggestions of what 7th grade girls wear and those of us with 7th grade girls told her. No one said she had to get all the things, but it’s stupid to suggest the 7th grade girl uniform isn’t some combo of the items that have been suggested.

It isn’t. There are so many options out there for middle schoolers. The main issue was her dd wearing sequins that 3rd graders like. She just wants her to be age appropriate with her friends who don’t seem to worry about labels.

Athletic shorts anywhere from Old Navy to Vuori to Alo to Gap and hundreds in between. It does not matter where they are from. The fit and cut are more important. Also denim shorts are always a good choice. Body type would determine which teen store would fit well. American Eagle runs a little big, Hollister can run smaller.

T-shirts are basic. OP should donate the sequins ones and buy some plain t-shirts to start. Maybe sports t-shirts if she likes certain teams or watches the NHL or baseball. That would be a good start.

Sneakers - she should have to go and choose a pair she likes. They sometimes fit differently from style to style so she should try them on.

Some people are focused on name brand when it’s more about what’s flattering to the wearer and what’s basically in style for her age group.

She wouldn’t be willing to wear Nike, Lululrmom etc.

You really need to know your DD’s “aesthetic” as the kids say!

I think its funny that you think there is a meaningful distinction between Aerie and Lululemon. Its all athleisure.

The kids know.
Whether they prefer Lululemon or don't like it.

Of course the kids know the difference. But saying you like one and dislike the other is like saying you love creme brulee and you hate flan.

The PP said that her DD “wouldn’t be willing to wear” lululemon, not that she likes one and dislikes the other. If it were a “mean girl thing” to eat flan…

Lulu is not a mean girl thing at our school. They are so crazy ubiquitous - most of the grade has them and most of the grade is not mean.

Who ever said middle schoolers were logical?
